In 2022 I won a truck and me and my team decided we were gonna make a movie about black people exploring the great outdoors. It was named ‘Outside Ain’t Free’. Little did we know that title would come to fruition in more ways than we could ever believe. It’s taken half a decade to tell this story. I’ve lost so much but all I know is I’m full of wounds but still standing. If you’re in Denver click the link in bio and get you a ticket to this Friday’s private screening at 7pm help at @departmentdenver OUTSIDE AINT FREE Illustrated by the remarkable @birdcap 🫶🏾 #oaf #outsideaintfree

When we started this project 2021 we had a plan and life said it didn’t need a shot list. I feel like I’ve lived a thousand lives since the first day we hit record, so much has happened and I’ve lost so much but I’m still here. I am not a victim I am a survivor. I’m proud to announce that I’m finally getting to fill the world in on everything’s that’s happened at @indiememphis this year! Nov 7th at 3:45 at the Malco Powerhouse theater in downtown Memphis. Come celebrate with us as we showcase what it looks like to never give up. I’m forever thankful for my team and everyone who has encouraged me along the way. I’ve learned that graveyard and a garden looks the same to a naked eye. We are planted, not buried! 🌱 @outsideaintfree Director: 👽 Producer: @neiaghat Cinematographers @1dot_ @singletracklens Photography: @joesills Writer: @blkelkdan Editor: @deepstatedave Music curation: @idixteco @idisenpai @realtayythepro @jussflo

The other day in the office I mentioned that we started filming Jaunt more than two years ago and there was a shared disbelief that it’s been that long. I dug up the original text to @justice_jax_berry. It got me thinking though how crazy the whole journey has been and I figured this was a fun way to share some of the milestones so far with this short film. So much goes into making films. Plans, obstacles, pivots, success and failures, but always learning experience like anything in life. Cheers 🥂 #blkelk

Life is moving FAST. Let’s take some time to slow down and look at some highlights from this year so far. Here’s some fun BTS captured along the way in no particular order. We did a creative campaign for our friends at @heirloom1907. We wrapped the feature film @whoisleonardheck. We hosted a @wave.nwa at the @themomentary. We brought @jaunt.film to @mountainfilm. We turned our studio into an automotive art show with @expressrally, @944_safari, and @oneup_motogarage. We produced a music video for the @thedarkskinnedghost. We have more BLK ELK originals in the works and we’re looking forward to collaborating with more clients to round out the year with a bang. Thanks for watching. - The BLK ELK Crew.

As we move into the second half of the year where in the world has the time has gone. It’s crazy looking back on these moments because they feel like forever ago but yesterday at the same time. Time is nuts. So is getting older. I’m just trying to take it in the best I can. Not pictured here are the crash outs, gloomy days, and engine trouble BUT I’m grateful for it all. We out here.

Behind the lens of ShellBound: Daniel Mitchell. Daniel is a filmmaker and co-founder of BLK ELK, a production company rooted in outdoor storytelling. His work has taken him from Red Bull to Walmart to the Banff Mountain Film Festival. With a background in Mechanical Engineering, he brings both creative vision and technical precision to everything he makes. For ShellBound, he brought something else too – the perspective of someone discovering oyster farming for the very first time. “Coming from a landlocked state, I was enamoured by the entire experience that oysters bring to farmers, chefs, and the Southern food scene.” Streaming now on YouTube – link in bio. 🎬🦪 #ShellBound #Documentary #SouthernOysters #Filmmaker #BLKElk
