If our family was a solar system, Colette was our sun.

She was full of life, loud, authentic, unapologetic, creative, artistic, kind, eclectic, beautiful, soulful – a true daughter of the earth. And she was also our mother.

It is said that a Wanderer is a person who travels aimlessly, roams, or moves from place to place without a fixed home or destination. But I believe my mother was a purposeful wanderer.

She turned every interaction, every adventure, every conversation, every space into something special, something memorable.

She has always been very deliberate about her wandering, down to the very end. I know in my heart she is at peace now, wandering from a far, but also forever present.

Love you Mom 🩷

Aunty Colette made this beautiful video with us 🙏🏾

As part of a desire to share the wisdom of the earth, I asked Aunty Colette is she’d be willing to do an interview with me and participate in the music video for a song, Ancestral Blues. The concept was to speak with people who actually walk with the elements, so they could inspire, educate and encourage others. She was open to the idea, checked in with one of her sons, and then Aunty Colette agreed happily.

It was such a beautiful morning, listening to Aunty’s wisdom and her jokes lol. There was no one like her and she is one of a kind. Kindness and bravery, sass and wit, inner and outer beauty, all in one and sprinkled her very own fairy dust. Her personal magic 🪄

Ishack dove into his archives Tuesday night and made this beautiful edit. The audio is the very first thing he clicked on when he began his search. He took that as a sign.

Look at our beautiful Aunty. Listen to her wise words. Thank you so much, Aunty Colette. For the love you’ve always shown to me and my family.

Thank you. Ahom.
