One of the best things I’ve learned from my time at TCU and during my time here at FDU is that sometimes the best thing you can do when you start questioning yourself is to just do it yourself and see what happens.

Acceleration is one of the most important qualities an athlete can develop.

Most sports aren’t played at max speed, they’re played in short explosive bursts. The first 3-5 steps can decide the entire play. Creating separation, closing space, reacting faster, changing direction, recovering on defense… it all comes back to acceleration.

At Ideal Sports Performance, we don’t just want athletes to be “fast.” We want them to apply force efficiently, move explosively, and become more athletic in every aspect of their sport.

Acceleration training builds:
⚡️ Explosiveness
⚡️ Force production
⚡️ Coordination
⚡️ Sprint mechanics
⚡️ Deceleration & re-acceleration
⚡️ Athletic confidence

Top speed is how fast the car can go.
Acceleration is how fast it gets there.

And in sports… that’s usually what matters most

Results matter, but the environment matters more.

At ISP, it’s not just about training, it’s about being part of a culture that pushes you, supports you, and holds you to a higher standard every single day.

We focus on the details, coach with intent, and we invest in our athletes beyond the weight room.

If you’re serious about getting better, this is where it starts.

The Importance of Consistency in Training 🎾…

In the realm of training on social media, everyone is looking for the next “best exercise” or modality.

The truth is, it doesn’t matter what pretty exercise you’re doing - what truly matters is the frequency behind it.

This is Olivia, who’s been training with us at ISP for a little over a year.

She is one of our most consistent athletes who has showed up even on days she’s tired, busy with tennis scheduling, and/or has any other excuse to NOT show up.

The videos above are no greater than a year apart.

The work ethic Olivia has demonstrated is what we emphasize for every athlete that walks in our gym.

Regardless of how she’s feeling, Olivia always shows up ready to be better than the previous day.

Athletic performance doesn’t come randomly, it comes with dedication & hard-work - and most importantly by showing up.

It has been a pleasure working with Olivia and we cannot wait to see what her future holds!

The Correlation Between Jump Height and Power Output 💨

When it comes to producing force, there is no greater stimulus than sprinting.

During a sprint, athletes are able to produce up to 4-5 times their body weight.

The direct correlation comes particularly from acceleration(first 10m) - where the athlete has to horizontally project themselves out into a full-on sprint which is highly muscular driven.

In most cases, the fastest athletes are typically the most explosive/powerful athletes.

Based off Vladimir Issurin’s research, speed is the biomotor quality we lose first or the fastest in 5±3 days.

The window for maintaining speed is extremely short - which is another reason why consistency will always triumph every other factor.

If you want to compete at the highest level, you need to be sprinting often.

“Athletes who were characterized as “strong” or demonstrated “higher power outputs” appeared to achieve greater sprint velocity by expressing higher step frequency, particularly during mid-acceleration, as well as abbreviated ground contact times across each sub-section of acceleration.”

“These results support the importance of developing high levels of maximal strength, PP, and RFD to enhance sprint acceleration. Additionally, these findings may also be used to strategically integrate speed development and resistance training practices into the annual training plan.”

(Bellon, Christopher, “The Relationship Between Strength, Power, and Sprint Acceleration in Division I Men’s Soccer Players”) (2016).
