CURRENTLY ON VIEW IN BERLIN

We are very happy to share a few impressions of Götz Diergarten’s (@goetzdiergarten) participation in the group exhibition “Rooms / Stages” at the Helmut Newton Foundation in Berlin (@helmutnewtonfoundation).

The exhibition brings together twelve photographers whose works explore different relationships between photography and space.

Götz Diergarten is represented with works from his METROpolis series, which he began in 2006 and has continued ever since, photographing underground stations in various European capitals. At the Helmut Newton Foundation, works from Berlin and London are on view. Without the usual flow of passengers, these normally busy spaces reveal their architecture, colours and geometric structures in an entirely different way.

One of the works currently on view in Berlin was also shown at Emde Gallery as part of our group exhibition “REMIX 1”.

“Rooms / Stages” is on view at the Helmut Newton Foundation in Berlin until 15 November 2026.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening of “Kinships – Diving into the In-Between“ by Soomee Yu!

The exhibition is the result of the project seminar “Inside the Gallery“ at the Department of Art History, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (@kunstgeschichte_mainz / @unimainz), developed and curated by students in collaboration with the Emde Gallery.

A very special thank you goes to Soomee Yu (@yosoi_94) for her trust, openness and the wonderful collaboration throughout the past months. Sharing such deep insights into one’s artistic practice and developing an exhibition together with students is anything but self-evident.

I would also like to thank all the students for their dedication, enthusiasm and excellent teamwork. From developing the exhibition concept and selecting the works to writing the texts, planning the installation and supporting the opening – everyone contributed with great commitment. It was a pleasure to realize this project together.

The exhibition is on view until 1 August 2026.
We look forward to seeing you! 🧡

We are very pleased to present “Kinships – Diving into the In-Between”, a solo exhibition by the artist Soomee Yu (@yosoi_94) at Emde Gallery.

The exhibition is part of the project seminar “Inside the Gallery” at the Institute of Art History, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (@kunstgeschichte_mainz / @unimainz) and was developed and curated together with the students.

Working across drawing, printmaking, textiles and object-based works, Soomee Yu creates a multifaceted visual world that she herself describes as a kind of “Underworld”. This imaginary world is shaped by relationships, connections and transitions, and inhabited by hybrid beings. Humans, animals, plants and other life forms do not appear as separate entities but as parts of a larger whole.

Rather than depicting an external reality, her work explores how relationships emerge, how we orient ourselves within complex systems, and how individuals assert themselves within larger interconnected structures.

The exhibition title refers to those in-between spaces where relationships emerge and evolve. “Kinships” describes forms of kinship and connectedness that go beyond biological or familial ties. “Diving into the In-Between“ invites viewers to immerse themselves into different layers of this world – into the microcosm of individual beings and their relationships, as well as into the macrocosm of larger networks and systems.

Soomee Yu (*1994, Seoul, South Korea) currently lives and works in Mainz and Frankfurt am Main. She studied Fine Arts at Mainz Academy of Fine Arts as a master student of Prof Megan Francis Sullivan and at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle (Saale). Her work has been shown in numerous exhibitions both nationally and internationally.

SOOMEE YU: Kinships – Diving into the In-Between
11 July – 1 August 2026
