🐰If you have a rabbit with a femur fracture, and your vet recommends amputation: -Understand: amputation is controversial -Many rabbits are not good candidates -Push the vet to give the fullest disclosure Possible of potential risks before consenting to the surgery. 💫If you have a tripod bunny, or are considering adopting one, tripods do come with some extra care requirements: -Consider joining the FB Tripod Support Group (link in my bio) -Watch for emergence of a sore hock on the remaining hind foot -Maintain a healthy light weight with a good diet: extra weight will stress the remaining hind legs -Early arthritis is a risk: be watching for it to alleviate it -Additional ear care-- assistance in removing ear wax-- is necessary. 💫If you are experienced with tripods please drop a line to tell us additional important care considerations. #tripodrabbit #tripodbunny #tripod #bunniesworldwide #instabunny

If your bunny gets a fracture, it could likely be in an upper hindleg, as so much force is created and absorbed by the muscles and joints around it when a rabbit runs or jumps. These are serious injuries: because rabbit bones are brittle and because the rabbits motion at the time of injury is carrying a lot of torque, these fractures are typically "spiral", shattering bone shards into the flesh as they happen. I have lost 2 rabbits to such fractures over the years. I've learned a bit that I want to pass on-- 1. Not all rabbits are good candidates for having a fracture surgically repaired with a plate; 2. Not all rabbits are good candidates for amputation. 3. The nutrition they have all their life until that moment of fracture, has a significant impact on the likelihood of their recovery. 4. There is no way of anticipating whether your rabbit will follow the "textbook case". Rabbit veterinary science advances quickly but it hardly has all the answers yet. Today's unique intervening factor-- whether good or bad-- is tomorrow's research question: you will not have all the answers beforehand: we humans must live into our truth & knowledge. 💫In fond memory of Benjamin Bunny & Bunjamin Franklin💜💟🌹🪻 #rabbit #rabbithealth #fracture #surgery #pethealth

🏆Bennington pours out 110% in therapy. ⚠️My old track coach would accuse Bennie of "overtraining". ✨️Our job at home is ensuring a full recovery: - Growth hormone for cell rebuilding releases as mammals fall asleep & awaken: -when the body rushes to repair, sleep can be fitful; -athletes are trained not to put forth more than nominal effort during recovery-- many animals seem instinctively to understand this---- 🌠They're NOT Bennie!💫 🙏🙏It hurts to see him trying so hard during recovery. The best I can do is be present with immediate physical assists so he does not work too hard meeting his needs. 🩺Do you have experience with post-therapy recovery in companion animals? 🙏Please contribute your thoughts & insights in the Comments. #recovery #physicaltherapy #rabbithealth #petcare #training

. Rocky Just Turned 7 in December so he is considered a #seniorbunny . About a Month prior I had witnessed during the night what I believed to be a Grand Mal #seizure. Since he’s in the bed with me it was hard to make any sense of it. I wasn’t sure if he rolled over and his legs were in the air but then I saw him shaking uncontrollably, losing both bowel control and he urinated everywhere. About A Year Ago I had him to the vet explaining how I noticed him spacing out. She asked me to record a few videos and send them to her. At that time she did believe he was having “Absence”or “Petit Mal”seizures and we decided at that time to take a less conservative approach since labs, X-rays and EC were all negative. He was put on Gabapentin. They were also far and few . Until that Night in November 🥺😞. He has full on Grand Mal Seizures probably at least one every couple hours with the Petit Mals in between. He no longer leaves my bed, his SAFE place and mine now too. His meds are not only Gabapentin, Phenobarbital, Valium, Pain Meds and recently added Potassium Bromide. He is currently considered to be on Palliative Care 🥺😭. He Has an Appointment This Friday at Red Bank Exotics where Exotic Vets have specialties. He will be seeing a neurologist specializing in seizures alone. I’m not sure if, what or anything they can do but this is their field of expertise. You wouldn’t go see a podiatrist for bowel cancer right? I have to give him a chance. He’s been right next to me his entire life and especially through the toughest year of mine. I Love You Rocky 🐻♥️ #minirex #mommasboy💙

. Children are born naturally curious . Show them curiosity on their level. (Exactly why the gate is separating them) They aren’t born with hate in their hearts. That is taught. Teach value and instill respect, love and compassion for animals who don’t have a voice. #granddaughter #animallovers #bunnies #adoptdontshop -Emma 👼🏻 Sammy 🖤 Jezzy ♥️ 🌟My bunnies are all free roaming. I only had the X-Pen up because Emma is only 9 months. It’s for safety reasons 🌟
