I am honored to have been named a finalist for the 2026 Ruth & Ray Reister Award for Historical Contributions to the Humanities by the Minnesota Humanities Center.

As a fifth-generation Rondo native and community historian, I believe our stories are our legacy. Preserving our history is an act of love, justice, and hope for the future.

I am grateful for this recognition and inspired to continue sharing stories that educate, empower, and connect generations.

It was the stage where my passion met the power of entrepreneurship. The summit lit a fire in me, to turn creativity into business strategies. The energy came in waves and the community of entrepreneurs were inspiring.

Growing up in Flint all my life, I saw creativity flourish at times and break 💔. I see now we still have that light and big,bold community of individuals who all share that same spark.But sad to say we can't build a reality for those dreamers if we are scared to come together as whole on one accord. I love where I'm from, I just want more the community and those coming up.

This weekend was an eye opener, not only for myself but my business.

TAKE THE CHANCES AND KNOW THE RISKS.

This weekend proved that no matter how small you feel, creativitly, individually. You are what you want to be ✨ you have to want it and be willing to take a hit or that rejection and keep trying.

✨ FROM THE NEW MAJORITY SUMMIT TO GLOBAL EMPOWERMENT MINISTRIES! ✨💚

What a powerful day of connection, collaboration, and purpose! 🙌🏽

I had the honor of attending the New Majority Summit at The Garden Theater, invited by DDF. A special shoutout to Shandra & Erin for the invitation! 💚 Thank you for creating spaces where entrepreneurs can connect, learn, and grow.

Then it was time to head home to my family at Global Empowerment Ministries, where we came together to discuss important strategies to help our Dream Team elevate, expand, and grow their businesses! 🚀💼

We were honored to have some incredible special guests in the building, including Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson , Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist, Eli Savit, State Representative Stephanie A. Young, and Senator Mary Cavanagh! 👏🏽
Im not telling what to do BUT VOTE FOR THEM on November 3‼️

From building connections to empowering entrepreneurs, this is what it’s all about creating opportunities, opening doors, and helping our community thrive. We’re not just dreaming; WE’RE BUILDING! 🔥

Last stop: Detroit. The New Majority Summit closed its tour at the Garden Theater yesterday, on Sweetest Day. Three things to sit with.

First, the name. The New Majority is Melissa Bradley's name for the founders this country has underestimated: women, people of color, LGBTQIA+ founders. The name is math. People of color are on track to be the majority of this country by mid-century, and Black women are the fastest-growing group of entrepreneurs in America. Still, in 2025, startups with a Black founder got 0.32 percent of U.S. venture funding. The talent was never the gap. Access is. Resource and educate these founders and they hire from their own blocks and reinvest in their own communities.

Second, the day. Sweetest Day was born in this part of the country, a day made to show forgotten people that somebody cared. Entrepreneurship is a forced personal growth journey. Nobody signs up for the version of yourself you have to become to make payroll. So a theater full of founders spending Sweetest Day together, trading stories and loving each other through it, is a radical act. Love is a radical act. To every speaker who gave us their stage and every attendee who gave us their Saturday: the most valuable thing you can give is your time. You gave it. Thank you.

Third, the room. Melissa opened with MelissAI, her AI coach, and Finance to Funded. Fireside chats with Angela Yee and Sean Williams of Detroit vs. Everybody. Cristina Byrd in the founder spotlight. Our co-founder and CEO Johnnie Turnage moderated the founder panel with Shalanda Armstrong of 100KM Ventures, Jacob Allen, and Dr. Darrell Marshall of Total Analysis: trust before business, what capital wants to see now, knowing your numbers, vetting investors. CPG. Sales. A Pop-Up Pitch drawn from the room.

Rooms get people to do things they never would have done if they had not come into the room. This one was powerful, in the opportunity it put in front of Detroit's founders and in the ripple it set off: the introductions, the follow-ups, the first checks. Thank you, @newmajorityventure. Detroit will carry it forward.
