I feel like there is more that I should say than that I wrote a book? That in the wake of the 2024 election it poured out of me. That it’s about trauma and bodily autonomy and eco-fascism and resource hoarding vs community care. That it’s feminist (dare I say…anti-romantasy?) fantasy that neither shies away from romantic love nor centers it. That it’s about stepping out of someone else’s narrative for you and writing your own story. That I hope you read it and remember you are a witch. I guess that’s saying quite a lot actually. Well. Anyway, I wrote a book! And I am so thankful to @erinleighharris and @mikaleek08 for championing it. 2028 here we come ✨✨✨

The biggest things that happened this year were invisible, but the 2nd and the last slides are the most accurate. Goodbye 2025, you brought so much to the surface, so much to completion ✨🌱✍️📚

PS: Can’t wait for 40 ✨🙈

I’m so happy to reveal the cover of my debut book DO YOU KNOW HOW LUCKY YOU ARE? Thank you @dharinibhaskar for loving the book and dealing with my nitpicking during the creation of the cover. The end result is gorgeous. And thank you @asuitableagency for all your work to get this out into the world. And @newmooneditorial for helping me give this story structure and life. Preorders available on Amazon India in my bio and for the folks in the states I’ll be bringing a bunch of books back from my tour in India so if you’d like to purchase a copy let me know!

A year ago today I sent out my farewell email at Penguin Random House and left to start @newmooneditorial. I had been at PRH for seven years. I didn’t know what would come next, but I knew it would change everything. And there have been a lot of changes this year, a lot of endings and beginnings, not all of them remotely easy. But my life is integrated now.

In the last year, I have helped so many writers reach their creative potential and their publishing goals. This summer I recorded my next EP (coming this fall!). This summer I visited and travelled with loves in Europe for periods of time that have never been possible in my life before. I hired a wonderful intern and processed some of my own past work trauma by being a supportive mentor and manager (her words) to her. I have listened to my business as it has grown. Today, to mark a year, I launched a new offering, The Dark Moon Sessions, to help writers kickstart their creativity (last two slides—link in my bio!).

A year ago I couldn’t have imagined today. I couldn’t imagine waking up to hours that are mine. Boundaries that are mine. To choosing to work only with my favorite people: other creatives. The writers I have edited, coached, and advised over the past year have enriched my life in turn. I’ve gotten to define my own editing process, re-define author care, and drop into my own creative process with writers to demonstrate what creative permission looks like.

I guess that’s it: a year ago I really did give myself permission. Here are some smiles from this year, since visibility is not effortless—and this work is not effortless. But goodness, it does make me smile. I hope this year brings you the urgency, humor, and inner knowing to give yourself permission to do the things you know, deep down, you need to do. 🌝

🌝 New Moon Rising 🌝

They say seven years is a life cycle—and that’s how long I worked with Random House, until I said goodbye yesterday. I know a lot of you know me as a musician, but a whole lot more of you know me as an editor too. These two lives have always gone hand in hand for me, although some people will never fully understand why. All I can say is that being a musician makes me a better creative advocate for authors—and the work I do to help authors fully realize their vision inspires me to keep evolving as an artist myself.

During the pandemic, I’ve come to understand that the most important part of my job was helping people tell (and understand) their stories, regardless of platform or talent representation. I don’t want to wait for the gate keepers to unlock the gates or relinquish the keys. I want to work directly with writers—especially those who are underrepresented in the American canon, past or present—to help them get started, and overcome writer’s block, and get to the agent submission stage...by any means necessary.

That’s why I’ve created New Moon Editorial, an independent holistic editing service. I’m just going to put the website and handle in my bio and let you explore. Also on TikTok: @newmoon_editorial.
