The adoptee response to centuries of culture, policy, and collaboration that created the circumstances that changed your family tree forever @bu_cfd with historian Rachel Nolan who compiled it.

@bernardoarevalogt is an academic, a quiet professional doing the work. No airs, definite tío energy. I can’t imagine the weight he carries on his shoulders but he approaches it with so much optimism. People wouldn’t be so pressed about him if he wasn’t the right person to lead in this moment, even if that means disrupting broken systems. I was so proud to stand with the man we elected to lead our country into a #NuevaPrimavera. 🌱 #guatemala #nextgenguate #adopteevoices #guatemalanadoptees #kaqchikel

If you are in the D.C. region, join the vigil and protest tomorrow at the Guatemalan Embassy! This is a Peoples’ Movement – join!

My ekphrastic poem, inspired by a painting I bought at @tipica_le_lquetzal , was just published in Maya America: Journal of Essays, Commentary, and Analysis!

An ekphrastic poem is a poem describing and/or observing a painting or work of art in a vivid and intriguing way.

My poem is focused around the post-civil war era of Guatemala—having it's recent conflict ended through a peace treaty in 1996 after the mass execution and disappearances of thousands of indigenous Mayan people.

This poem is for the people of my homeland, Guatemala. Shall they flee or endure the storm?
