Different roles, same goal 🤍

Between running @NextStrideWellness, working as an equine veterinary assistant, and being back in the classroom, I’m grateful for every opportunity to keep learning and growing for the horses in my care 🐴🩺📚

Next Stride Wellness provides complementary wellness services and does not provide veterinary services or replace veterinary care.

WELCOME TO BRIDGE ROAD FARM 🤎

Figured it was time for a proper introduction around here.

I’m Makaylin, but most people call me Mak. Bridge Road Farm is my happy place, my personal farm, home to my horses, dogs, cats, chickens, and approximately 100 projects at any given time. I grew up riding and competing in the jumpers and later riding and coaching collegiate equestrian.

I’m incredibly lucky to still have both of my childhood ponies here with me, and now I get to navigate a completely different stage of horse ownership as I focus on keeping them comfortable, happy, and thriving in their senior years. Then there’s Rolo, who came home with me from the University of Lynchburg and has turned out to be a bigger blessing than I ever could have imagined.

After spending the last few years heavily focused on school and coaching, I’m finding my way back to riding more consistently again with him. This time around, I’m having a lot of fun stepping outside of what I know, taking dressage lessons, mixing my traditional English roots with the western style I love, and letting go of the idea that I need to fit into one discipline or aesthetic.

My love for animals extends far beyond riding. I work as an equine veterinary assistant and run my own equine and pet wellness business, @NextStrideWellness, as a certified PEMF and Red Light Practitioner. I’m passionate about alternative wellness therapies and how they can complement traditional care. I’m always learning more about nutrition, natural products, herbs, essential oils, and different ways to support the animals in my care.

And that’s really what I want BRF to be. A place to share life with all of these animals, my return to the saddle, caring for horses through every stage of life, things I’m learning, products I genuinely use and love, farm projects, and whatever else we get ourselves into around here.

Glad you’re here 🤎

Something new is coming... 🐴

I’m so excited to finally share something I’ve been working on behind the scenes! Over the next few weeks, I’ll be launching the Next Stride Wellness Equine Anatomy Series, where we’ll break down equine anatomy into simple, practical information for horse owners and riders.

A huge thank you to @theequinecreative for creating these beautiful custom illustrations and bringing my vision to life. I couldn’t be happier with how they turned out.

I can’t wait to start sharing them with you! What anatomy topic would you like to see first? 👇

Coming in hot, well, not really… Hot Truck Bob “Bob” is actually a pretty chill guy. He’s a 4 year old OTTB, who his mom loves to hang out with, snuggle, and spoil. Bob is every bit chill with a few surprise moments here and there, but he’s just a baby boy! This year Bob is hoping to get out on the trails more as well as take a go at being a local show horse. This time last year, he was training to run at Pimlico in Baltimore, MD on Preakness day. He decided he would rather be THE man of his field than THE man of the track. What do you think his best trait is? #cute #bayhorse #ottb #mdhorse #mdracing

👅 Tongues Out Thursday 👅

Those licks, smiles, and deep sighs? That’s your animal telling you they’re enjoying their MagnaWave session. It’s often a sign they’re relaxed, comfortable, and soaking in the experience. We love seeing those feel-good moments—because they say it all without a single word.

📸 Want to be featured? Share your Tongues Out Thursday photos with us and show off those happy, relaxed faces! Thank you Next Stride Wellness and Hannah Brown Photography for this AMAZING pic!

Recently, I watched one of my best friends go through the loss of her horse. Watching someone grieve can feel incredibly helpless. Often, what they want is something we simply can’t give, but one thing we can always do is be present for them, no matter the circumstance. I want to thank Mak for allowing me to be present with her and Krush in the final days of his life. What I took from that experience is this: to have loved an animal is to have known the deepest form of grace this earth allows.

Thank you to the animal lovers and the gentle souls who take after them. From now on, I will be offering free end-of-life photo sessions, free of charge, in Anne Arundel County for all kinds of animals and their owners🤍 Please feel free to share with anyone you know and to book a free end of life session use my website in my instagram bio!
