🎥 WEBINAR RECORDING „MADE WITH ITALY“ — NOW ONLINE!

We are excited to share the recording of our book presentation with Giuseppe “Nexus” Gatti, author of Made with Italy, as part of the European Hip Hop Studies Network Webinar Series.

What happens when we look at Hip Hop through the connections between Italy and the United States?

In this fascinating conversation, Giuseppe takes us through his 360° approach to Hip Hop — bringing together practice, research, cultural activism, and lived experience within the scene.

We talk about:
→ Hip Hop as a living culture and the relationship between practice and research
→ Migration and transnational cultural exchange
→ Made in Italy and Hip Hop aesthetics
→ the Vibe Magazine and the connections between street culture and Italian fashion
→ Dance floors, DJ cultures & breaking
→ Mafia imagery, cinema, and its reinterpretation within Hip Hop
→ Graffiti, street art, public spaces, and cultural memory
→ why Hip Hop research needs to remain connected to the communities and scenes that keep the culture alive

Throughout the conversation, Giuseppe invites us to think of Hip Hop history not as something fixed, but as a constellation of stories, people, practices, and connections still waiting to be explored. And perhaps most importantly, how can research not only study Hip Hop, but contribute to it, preserve its memory, and bring knowledge back into the scene?
