And with that, the Monday Chatroom’s first London chapter has come to a close 💗

We gathered on 16 February (on the eve of the Lunar New Year) to celebrate, inviting back participants from across all past sessions. In a small shift from our usual intimate format, I invited everyone to share about their own practices in optional five-min presentations. It was so inspiring to hear from everyone and all the incredible things you’re working on. I am still reeling in the conversations.

Thank you to @miminguyenmimi for giving the Monday Chatroom a home in Islington, @ninaad.kothawade for supporting another one of my endeavours with your design talents, and everyone who has spent an evening with us, sometimes commuting for over an hour to reach us. It’s been so special to see this network take shape over the past months. I’m certain there will be many more opportunities for us to gather, in London or elsewhere.

The next sessions of Monday Chatroom will be in Singapore and Hong Kong ☀️ some of you have also suggested online gatherings, and if there’s enough interest I’d be happy to start running them too.

Thank you, Monday Chatroom. You’ve made London all the better and cuter 🧚

✨ The Monday Chatroom ✨

Over the past few weeks, I’ve started The Monday Chatroom, a closed-door gathering of practitioners engaging with art and tech. Each session brings together a different set of participants, with artists, curators, researchers, and more.

These gatherings serve as points of discovery, forming new connections and fostering greater exchange and dialogue. So far, we’ve talked about AI slop, data moshing, Nordic LARP, programming for failure, and how technically proficient curators really need to be. And that’s just in the last three weeks.

I’m so grateful to Mimi @nguyenwahedart for giving The Monday Chatroom a home in Islington, @ninaad.kothawade for supporting yet another venture of mine with pro bono graphic design, and everyone who has joined us on a Monday evening to sit down with a group of like-minded strangers. All of you, and your generosity in time and spirit, give me fuel and hope for what we are looking towards.

If you’d like to join us for a future session, please reach out! This is a limited run but maybe there will be a second edition in a new city soon 🦋

📢 📢 Announcing our summer art commission! We are delighted to announce that Compiler collective @compilerzone are working with us on a new commissioned work, Tracing Together.

Through this new artwork, Compiler will invite the local community to create digital patterns and motifs that speak to personal journeys, overlooked routes, places and things that matter to people in the local area - forming new memories and connections while tracing histories of traditional embroidery to digital design and image-making.

@compilerzone is a digital art collective led by Tanya Boyarkina @neyanoya and Oscar Cass-Darweish @o_s_c_d . The group’s creative practice explores social and political challenges in digital culture. They aim to create accessible works and events for audiences with different skills, knowledge and abilities to better understand emerging digital technologies.

Oscar is wearing a white cap and a black t-shirt; Tanya is wearing glasses and a white shirt. They are softly lit by the projection behind them.
