Another day of adventures at the Nat Geo Photo Camp in the Peruvian Amazon! My Red Power Team has been assigned to photograph the Amazonas community and a fish farming project. Every day, we learn something new, share wonderful experiences, and have lots of fun along the way!

Thank you, #ngphotocamp! Thanks #lindbladexpeditions! Thanks #mingaperu

I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of the National Geographic Photo Camp here in Nauta, Peru, made possible through a wonderful collaboration with Minga Perú.

Spending time with these 20 amazing young people, seeing their energy, curiosity, enthusiasm, and creativity, has been truly inspiring. Watching them learn from talented photographers, discover new ways of seeing the world, and express themselves through photography is something special.

Moments like these remind me why I believe so strongly in the power of young people and the importance of creating opportunities for them to discover their potential.

These five frames from Cabo Ledo represent a life-changing journey. From seeing the ocean for the first time to documenting the local fishers, this experience taught me to look at the world with fresh eyes. This chapter of the photo camp is complete, but it has given me the confidence to keep sharing our stories through the lens.

God orders our steps. I have never hidden this from the young people I mentor.

My mentees know my life story so well they laugh when I start telling it. The places, the people, the names. They could tell it better than me by now.

On our way to @ngphotocamp Angola, rushing out of a hotel near OR Tambo, I saw a face I had not seen in years. I walked up to his table. He stopped mid sentence and rubbed his eyes.

"Yes, it is real! It is me!"

@shemimages . A few years ago, in my Photo Mashatu interview, I told him I dreamed of teaching young people photography. He was one of the few who believed it. Through hard seasons he was a brother and a father to me, and when my heart pulled me to the Okavango, he let me go with his blessing.

That morning, he met the dream. Two groups of my mentees from Namibia and Botswana introduced themselves to him one by one.

The man who once cupped his hands around a small light in me got to see what it became.

As we walked away: "Sir, who was that?"
"Shem Compion, from Photo Mashatu."
You could see the light bulbs switch on.

Thank you, Shem. 🙏🏾

Photo Camp Angola | Part 1

I left for Angola carrying doubts and unanswered questions. I came back with answers and with healing. This trip showed me why I can never stop sharing and passing on the light. Looking back on the path I have walked, I saw clearly why I must keep moving forward.

September was a heavy month for me, emotionally, spiritually and mentally. In the middle of it all, I was given the chance to travel to Angola for a National Geographic Photo Camp. Perhaps it was the journey I needed: to step away, be somewhere far from home, and immerse myself fully in what I love most, knowledge sharing and storytelling.

While there, I reflected on the camps that came before, in Botswana and Namibia, and on the young storytellers I have walked alongside. Seeing how far they have come, and how far I have come in passing on the light, gave me a deeper sense of purpose. It was in Angola that I truly understood the great commission: to go out and teach, to help, to serve, and to be kind.

Grateful to the @ngphotocamp team and Kirsten Elstner for the chance to keep learning the value of sharing knowledge, for connecting me with inspiring storytellers and the wonderful people of Angola, and for always opening doors for young voices.

Lots of love ,

"Farihna musseque"

The National Geographic Photo Camp is a dream come true. It gave me so many opportunities and inspirations to aspire to greater things. And I want to thank everybody who helped me achieve these things. Moreover, it was very pleasing to meet people from NatGeo, and other youth from the community. 📷🏔️🌅 @ngphotocamp @sitkafinearts

Had more photos but I can only add 20, I had to apply the editing skills I received from this experience😏

I spent this week working as a Team Lead at the Indiana @ngphotocamp, surrounded by these wonderful human beings. I’m very used to seeing the world through the lens of a camera, but this week I was so focused on being present for my students that I barely took a single photo.

I don’t take this experience for granted. It’s a blessing to be here and to learn from my students. Each of you is a talented photographer in your own right

Nat Geo Photo Camp has my heart!!!

After 3 years since my first camp I finally made it back to Indiana to work with @ngphotocamp on another session. This time I got to work as the Lead Instructor, presenting workshops and helping the students develop their photography skills with hands on assignments and feedback.

As always, I learned so much from these students, and I’m honored to have spent time with each and every one of them. They reminded me that life is so beautiful, if only you take a moment to look closely. I couldn’t be more proud seeing these students explore and develop their own voices - without a doubt they’re gonna go places!

Until next time my friends, stay fearless 💛

National Geographic Photo Camp || October 7-11, 2026 || Indiana

This past week I was able to experience a National Geographic Photo Camp. Throughout the week, we focused on our communities and storytelling. I would like to thank everyone who made this camp possible. I learned so much in just five days and everyone was so supportive of one another. This experience pushed me to step outside of my comfort zone with my subjects and to try new techniques. All the instructors and team leaders were inspiring and incredibly talented. It was so much more than I hoped for!
