Misty Mood:
This work holds a special place for me as the first painting I made with a relief surface, built from stone clay on a wooden panel. I started it in Taiwan during COVID, then carried the unpainted panel back to New York in my suitcase in 2022, where I completed the painting.
While making this piece, I was thinking about raindrops as teardrops, perhaps reflecting part of the collective emotions of that time. I painted an eye with very long lashes; some see it as a jellyfish or a butterfly, and both readings feel right to me. I was also thinking about how weather affects our moods, and how we use weather to describe emotions. As I was building up the surface with clay, my thoughts and feelings also slowly became part of the piece.

Conversations in Light:
What does it look like when a sunflower and a moonflower sit next to each other? What kind of conversation would they have? Here, I imagine two flowers meeting and exchanging information, stories, and energy through color and light. It's just the beginning.
