We’ve got a #graphicnovel #bookmatchmonday for you today @mrs_w_loves_reading 👇

Where’s the Poo?💩

Meet the poos. There’s Elvis, the cool one; Queenie, the one in charge; Duckie, the one with the yellow plastic duck; Bobbi, the one with the hat; and Unicorn poo. Except that Unicorn poo is missing. And without the power of the magical unicorn poo, the earth will not be safe and the nefarious Dr Loo Roll will end up taking over. Can the poos save the day?! They might need your help!

With search and find puzzles interspersed throughout, funny “advertisements”, cute fluffy-wuffy animals and hilarious comic strip stories, this full-colour graphic novel has proved to be a big hit in our house. With lots of laughs, fantastic illustrations and plenty of toilet humour, this book is an irresistible comic book story for children.

Tiny Hercules

Loosely based on Greek mythology, this fun series of graphic novels is back. Tiny Hercules, the world’s mightiest (and most minuscule) hero is not allowed to kick back and relax after completing his first legendary task. No, he’s got to fight for his survival again now that Tiny Zeus has sent three mythical beasts to prevent him ever getting back to Tiny Olympus. Will the beasts, Tinytaur, Minidusa and the Grifflet, be able to stop our loveable little guy in his legendary quest to retrieve the golden cabbage and get one step closer to Tiny Olympus?

Meanwhile, facts and figures loving Jeff is on a quest of his own. To show his graphs to the owner of the local supermarket to stop it from closing down. But when Jeff’s and Tiny Hercules’ adventures cross over, a whole world of cabbage chaos and carnage ensues!!

We love this full colour graphic novel with its clever and witty nods to the mythical world of Ancient Greece. The illustrations are full of comedy and humour and the storyline is joyful and fast-paced. Boredom busting and educational in the best of ways, there are lots of laughs in this graphic novel and we look forward to the next legendary instalment, pretty please!

Ad/pr thanks to the publishers for these books

REVIEW: Colostle by @nichangell

Colostle is a Solo journalling RPG set in a unique, expansive world.

Colostle is a seemingly infinite collection of rooms, their ceilings and walls so distant that entire worlds exist within them. The landscape a mixture of natural formations and gigantic structural pieces. You may look one direction and see a mountain range or an ocean, and another direction you see a huge staircase or door stretching up into the clouds. Patrolling the vast rooms are Rooks, castle like automatons that present great threat to humans. Some hunt Rooks to claim various upgrades and artifacts.

Characters start the game with a calling which underpins their reason for adventure. Classes have unique abilities that interact within Colostle in really interesting ways, you have specific magic systems, those that have rookling familiars, others augment rook tech into their bodies, or even a class of bastions - sentient rook constructs.

Gameplay sees you using a deck of cards to generate prompts that explain what has happened each day. You draw a number of cards depending on your exploration skill and weave the prompts together. If opponent cards are drawn you decide whether to enter combat. If you do, you determine your opponents attributes, then fight comparing you're combat cards against your opponent.

The thing I love most about Colostle is how vast the world is, you can have a wildly different setting from one room to the next with unique cultures and civilisations. If you dont like a setting you find yourself in, move to another room. The narrative exploration gives you so much space for creativity.

Another aspect I really enjoyed is the city building, as you enter a city you'll generate is using the deck of cards. I found myself getting as lost in the city building as I did with the exploration.

There are a wealth of examples for different settings to explore and the core book also contains a guided solo campaign adventure; Search for Seastone. I really enjoyed the freedom using the prompts to explore, but the guided campaign was great to as it has a lot of unique prompt tables and the story was really interesting.

📖 It's the Cheltenham Literature Festival - the closest, most awesome literary event we know of!

Yes, indeed: after years of attendance, both as a punter and occasional indie voice, it's a dream and an honour to make our first official appearance at our local book festival. Thank you to everyone who packed out today's comic-making workshops. From a jelly in a jelly with a jelly on the side, to a wolf with spikey hair that looks just like Queen Victoria, it was a delight seeing your weird, wonderful and amazing ideas come to life. Thank you for listening to all our Tiny Hercules talk and diving into our draw-along with such aplomb.

We hope you feel empowered to bring your own comics to life and that you enjoy reading Tiny Hercules! We look forward to meeting a new crowd of budding comic creators when we return on Sunday!

Thank you to the @cheltfestivals team for welcoming us into the hallowed halls of the writer's room and for treating us so well. It's hard work keeping this show of this size going, but you're doing a fantastic job.

⚡ A big thank you to Helen and Dave at @wonderlandbookshop for hosting us on the last day of our LEGENDARY Tiny Hercules book tour. It's been two manic, exciting weeks of talks and workshops, covering Liverpool, Frodsham, Wakefield, Leeds, Cheltenham, Norwich, Bury St Edmunds, Pinner and Retford, and as tired as we are, we've had a fantastic time.

Massive thanks to the kids and teachers who've welcomed us into their schools and shown such love for Tiny Hercules. We're also so grateful to all the dedicated booksellers who've treated us so well and been such amazing champions of our tiny, mighty hero. Roll on the next tour!

📖 In the meantime, work on Tiny Hercules book 3 continues apace, and we've got a few days to recharge before delivering our comic-making workshops at the Cheltenahm Literature Festival (@cheltfestivals). As Cheltenham boys, it's an honour to appear on stage in our home town. Thank you to everyone for grabbing tickets and making us a SOLD OUT SHOW. We're so excited to meet you.

Cheers everyone. More soon - but for now, sleep.

A huge thankyou to comic book creators Jon Lock and Nich Angell for one of our biggest events ever! Local schools absolutely loved hearing all about their Tiny Hercules series, comics, creativity and sharing art with friends.

Their wonderful presentation had teachers and students laughing and inspired to draw themselves.

He’s brave! He’s strong! He’s the size of a jam jar! He’s Tiny Hercules, the world’s tiniest hero – and he’s winning his way back to Tiny Olympus, one legendary deed at a time!

Tiny Hercules has been banished to Earth as a punishment for ruining Tiny Zeus's bodacious party. To get home he must complete twelve legendary tasks but it isn't going to be easy – even for a demigod. Crash landing in the peaceful town of Chutney-on-Toast, Tiny Hercules soon spots his first task: defeating a lion! (or maybe it's a cat!)

We love bringing authors into schools for visits. If you are interested in working with us in the future then please email events.norwich@waterstones.com

📚 Ready. Set. Read! 📚

We’ve been a little obsessed with Tiny Hercules in my classroom…

When I brought out this awesome word search AND the chance for them to design their own Monster Crew member, I may have won the title of Best Teacher for the day!

We had the best time creating our crew members and the conversation spilled into break, lunch and beyond.

📖 What a win for the @_reading_rocks_ free reading resources and there’s so much more still to come.

🌟 Make sure you check out the free resources too for these amazing LKS2 book bundle.
