When I saw the behind the scenes footage of her continuing to cry after the scene cutt just pouring her heart into the scene, That was the moment I knew I had to paint her. In that moment you could see the rawness and emotional vulnerability in her soul she put into her art.
She’s become such an icon so quickly and it’s so very cool to see North America and the world is opening up to other cultures and films or series in different languages. I think there’s a big shift in culture happening and It’s long over due , it’s so refreshing to see more diversity in art .
Also beauty standards of before are crumbling and the most famous models and actors of the future will actually represent the beautiful diversity of humankind.
Art can bring us all together, celebrating each other, discovering each other.
This piece is titled 변화 (byeon Wha)
[change, variation, shift, transition, variety] in Korean
It ties in with my profound love of languages and the shifts mentioned earlier aswell as all the changes in my life right now

Don’t confuse pleasure and joy, true happiness comes from things that take effort. We live in a pleasure driven society and everyone is unhappy, because joy doesn’t come from just having fun eating whatever, getting drunk and having fun.

it’s counterintuitive but fun is not how you reach happiness.. effort is. Pleasure is easy , cheap and fleeting, joy is deep and strong and built over time, with hard work, effort, giving, building and maintaining good habits, good relationships with others and with ourselves.

Of course you need to enjoy life’s pleasures, but they are so much better enjoyed in moderation and after joy and inner peace are obtained.

I’m cutting back on life’s pleasures to focus back on my inner peace

In my new studio, working on new things.
I am in a very new headspace where I am super grateful to be finally focusing solely on art and nothing else, at the same time it’s a stressful transition, I took the plunge at the perfect time, because the perfect time is always NOW. The bird doesn’t wait a year to be a full grown bird to try flying for the first time, and so here I am flying on my own, still a lil wobbly and scared of crashing, but it’s exhilarating, and it’s working out, I’m just a little on edge all the time. but if you wait for the perfect timing, when you have more time, more money, when you have more savings, when you have the right opportunity….you’ll just wait forever.
Lucky breaks don’t just come to those sitting around, they come to those out there taking risks.
If everything seems under control you’re just not going fast enough

They say health is everything, and without it you have nothing.. but I disagree. No matter what art will always be there. You always have art regardless of age and sickness no one can take it away.

Been struggling a lot with a rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis I got a few months ago, I was always a very active and fit person, but suddenly moving is a challenge and I feel like an old man who Is in constant pain.
For now I can’t do a lot of what I used to do, but I’ve realized my mind is so much more valuable than my body. I used to feel powerful because of my physical strength , but I realized my superpower has always been my creativity , my vision and my soul. So as long as I can create, smile and love, imma be alright.

Art then, art now , art forever

Shoutout to all those going through physical and mental struggles. Focus and what you CAN do and not what you can’t.

Sometimes in photos it’s hard to grasp the scale of my artwork, this photo however captures the size of my work perfectly. I’m 5’11 by the way , standing there surrounded by my giant art in my luminous studio feeling pretty damn good. Thanks for the shots and the interview @galleryparfois .
