I had the privilege and the honor of helping make this record. I think I can speak for everyone involved in saying it was a deeply profound experience

A “record,” at its best, is a snapshot in time. It is a moment that is captured and preserved. There are many more ways to mess this up than there are to get it right. Many people release records, lots of them wonderfully good. But very few artists know how to “make” records. Keith is one of those people.

Allowing yourself the freedom to be swallowed up completely by any singular moment in your life, to dwell like Pinocchio in the terrible dogfish shark, and to come out reborn takes courage, discipline, and a certain sense of wonder that is beyond just curiosity.

Keith does this.

The record is incredibly beautiful. And I am simply proud of him and the art that he has created. For now, You can find the album on Bandcamp. It is called “Core Wound” by The Shivers.

@whiskerman album release party TONITE at @elismilehighclub w/ besties @suzanimal_sf & new hero of mine @noaalark! Rumor has it Eli’s will shut down next month if you don’t roll thru tonite so… no presh… but like ;( I’m driving up from LA right now just for this so it would mean a lot. @grahampatzner informed me there will be many special guests sitting in with us so all signs are pointing to it potentially kinda goin off and maybe even possibly being the greatest night of our evergreen lives and an homage to our fading beauty, the ephemeral intersection of music and community, and the crumbling bastion of late stage capitalism.

“American Hell” was 5 years in the making but some songs on the record, like “Osiris” and “the master” I remember Graham teaching me 10 years ago and having my mind blown, as is often the case with his songwriting. Some tunes, like “Ram’s Head” are live staples from well before my tenure in the band, evolving over time and being re-recorded to capture their final form.

Many sessions during lockdown over zoom with @charlesdavidlloyd composing gorgeous dueling slide guitarmonies and battling latency forging the alchemy we fondly refer to as Steel & Glass.

I remember the homies moshing and crowdsurfing to “black river” at grassroots fests that are now no more, vanquished by plague and fire. I remember being moved to tears hearing @trevorbahnson and Graham duet on the devastating closer “Jack of Spades” written for their friend Lisa Donnelly, who passed before I was in the fold yet who I know through this song.

Proud of the band, honored to play a part in it, grateful to @ianpellicci at @brotherschineserecording for engineering it and splitting mix duties with @cianthreetimes and @royaloakie for putting it out on vinyl and CD, available for the first time at the show. Big thanks to @korythibeault for the 📸 , mgmt & booking 🙏

Lots of life is encapsulated in this petroleum byproduct and kudos to ol GP and all his collaborators for getting it over the finish line in all its ornery glory.

Yada yada yada… etcetera etcetera etcetera…

C u 2nite! ✌️❤️ 🎸

It’s been my greatest musical pleasure being a part of this album. Keith is one of the best to ever do it. Much love to everyone involved. You can only find the album on band camp for the time being. Please share the magic ❤️

Grateful for another year in this body, on this beautiful planet. Clocked in as one of the best and biggest. Grateful to have seen so many new places, some of them places I’ve been waiting my whole life to visit. I started a body of work that I’m loving. I got into grad school! A lot of art made me cry. I threw the biggest best birthday party with my friends and got crowned prom king. I fell deeper in love with some really precious people. Pretty proud of it all, so much more goodness to come.
