You might encounter the works of multidisciplinary artist Nick Klein in a gallery just as easily as in a rowdy club; he is also an active curator in the Berlin scene and the head of the excellent PL (Psychic Liberation, etc.) label. His musical output ranges from sound art to noise techno; recently, his live sets have tended towards sheer hellish soundscapes. One unifying element of his approach might be the willingness to make it sound raw: Klein does not smooth out the rough edges, and listeners are exposed to harsh sounds and structures. It is quite easy to form an addiction.

Still here. After a time of reflection and restructuring, I’m back with lots of news.

From today, Círculo De Sucesos has its own website: all my work in one place. A website that invites you to explore, because nothing is as simple as it seems. There are things where you least expect them, and classic sections that stop behaving in a classic way and let you build your own version.

There are apps ready to download and use for free, and something I’m really excited about: the chance to immerse yourself in some of my visual work in 3D. Don’t miss how Les Goges, Lo Pelut and Minairons look now. And since it’s Halloween season, you can enjoy last year’s Halloween special, now in 3D too.

Keep an eye on the website and its messages: there’s exclusive material that’s already there but won’t stay for long, and more coming soon, like the premiere of my new short film, DESTELLOS. I’ll tell you more about it very soon.

But I can’t finish without the second announcement, which I’m very happy to share: from the website you can now reach MAREA, my new work. It’s a sound piece inspired by the Venice Biennale and conducted live by the tide of the lagoon. From its opening tomorrow, Saturday 17 October, at 11:00, until 22 November, it will play without pause, and never the same way twice.

> Concentration
Ranging from industrial punk to psychotic cabaret, sardonic, horny, angry: that's Concentration, the Berlin/Melbourne offshoot of the Avon Terror Corps collective.
Not taking anything from their records, it's their live performances (including the one that took Unsound 2024 by storm) for which they are particularly renowned. All bets are off at their gigs, but it's probably safe to say they're slightly obscene, very anarchic - and extremely entertaining.

> Tzu Ni
The work of Taiwanese artist Tzu Ni encompasses not only experimental electronics but also field recordings and installations. Her albums showcase fragmented, unstable structures straddling the line between sound art and noise: a quasi-organic growth that can mutate into something both beautiful and terrifying. Of course, these characteristics are not mutually exclusive.

> Kutin & Nerve
Both Peter Kutin and Steve Hui (aka Nerve) revel in disjointed electronic compositions.
The former works with sound in the context of light or sculpture; he is also involved, for example, in the trio PLF with Elvin Brandhi and Lukas König. Hui is a key figure in the Hong Kong experimental scene; his work fuses contemporary composition with rave, creating unsightly yet thrilling hybrids.
Together, Nerve and Kutin do not play noise per se, but their frenzied energy often surpasses its intensity.

another year of snapshots for
you&me festival.
pt.1

i am going to start with this one, in which there is no human. zhao ziyi placed the branch that the previous performance had left on the stage in a corner of the venue, with the speakers for company. I once stood in this corner with my eyes closed for a few minutes; the low frequencies there were like a bath.

this year I shot many blue tarps on the ceiling, and their relationship to crowds & light. it reminded me of the blue tent on the sidelines of an NFL game, usually used to quickly examine injured players and decide whether they should continue with everything that comes next on the court.

about injury, about leaving the group, about returning to the group, about brutal consequences and the journey that follows.

PART 3: Three days of workshops, as part of my piece “Temporary Studio” for SA–I Festival: Interventions, Daejeon, South Korea, July 2026.

This was a fundamentally important experience for me and I'm incredibly thanful to all the participants, collaborators and organizers. Here is a small selection of shared moments, making and exchange. It was hard to try select these images as every individual over the three different long workshop days created special atmosphere with their presence and contributions. The video is showing just some of the work that the first group did. This work touches several significant elements from my life and practice, one of them being the concept of relinquishing artistic autonomy (or opera aperta).

Below the official curatorial statement:

“Temporary Studio is part of an ongoing project titled Living Environment, a participatory installation in which Laurila, alongside local participants, collects discarded materials around Soje neighborhood in Daejeon, South Korea, to assemble them into a temporary space. The project emphasizes the process of spatial creation, modification, and documentation over the final physical product. Participants gather, sort, and gradually collectively build these found materials into temporary structures. Upon the project’s conclusion, the structures are disassembled, and the materials are returned and further upcycled in partnership with local associations. Laurila’s work centers on the process through which people forge relationships and cultivate shared experiences, exploring the potential of building a meaningful—albeit fleeting—community.”

With amazing fellow artists 💜
