What a fabulous night raising money for the @humptydumptyfoundation with lots of pieces of potentially lifesaving equipment purchased by our generous donors, to help provide the best possible health outcomes for babies and children around Australia. The food by @aaronward88 and his team @batherspavilionrestaurant was exceptional, and the accompanying wines curated by @_bicknell.d_ and @nickryanwine were nothing short of sensational. Their insights and knowledge had the room completely enamoured. We had loads of special guests whose stories either had everyone in the room roaring with laughter or left absolutely in awe at the brilliance of our world leading doctors and professors. A special thanks from me to our fabulous Humpty team who make every day working for this charity a dream…. I’m a very proud Patron indeed.. Thanks also to @justyna_chapman for making me up for the event and for the beautiful flowers. You are such a kind soul Justyna ❤️❤️❤️

Do You Work In The Australian Wine Industry? Two government reviews close this month. Both are about the rules under every bottle we make. Most people don't know they're happening. ONE: The Wine Australia Regulations Review. Why care? These rules decide what you can say on a label, how you export, and what a region name means. Whatever is written in 2028 runs for ten years. Why I care? Our rules say where a wine is from, and nothing about quality. I asked for opt-in quality rules: real meanings for Old Vine, Single Vineyard and Dry Grown, and conditions a region can attach to its own name. Deadline: 25 September. TWO: Where wine region names should live. Why care? If you put a region name on a label, this decides who controls that name, what it costs your region to keep it, and who can change it. Why I care? Keep region names in the Wine Act. The power to attach quality conditions to a name is already there. Moving names to a trade-mark register would split the rules from the people who enforce them. Deadline: 30 September. You don't need to be an expert. A few honest lines about what affects you is enough. Everything you need is in one place: what each review is, how to respond, the papers, and my own submissions in full. This week, the IWSC returned to Western Australia for its fourth Global Judging in the region, in partnership with Margaret River Wine Association (@MargaretRiver.wine). Co-chaired by Freddy Bulmer (@freddythewinebuyer), Wine Buyer at The Wine Society, and Andrew Caillard MW (@andrewcaillardmw), Author and Auctioneer, our international panel tasted hundreds of wines, with plenty of discussion, deliberation and debate along the way. Outside the judging room, there was plenty to explore too: Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay showcases, a "hidden gems" tasting featuring alternative varieties, meetings with local winemakers, and even a Shiraz and truffle pairing. 📝 Discover the highlights from this year's IWSC Judging in Margaret River at the link in our bio. A huge thank you to Leeuwin Estate (@leeuwinestate), Domaine Naturaliste (@domainenaturaliste), Juniper Estate (@juniperwines), Wayfinder Wines (@wayfinderwines) and Margaret River Truffle Farm for hosting our judges, and to Vasse Felix (@vassefelix) for providing the home for the judging. 🥇 IWSC 2026 Margaret River medal results will be revealed on 1 September. Stay tuned.

Tasting at Sinapius Vineyard Tamar Valley Tasmania Booked-in, for a 7 wine tasting, hosted by Kym a veteran of the Tamar Valley region. Nick Ryan wrote in the Weekend Australia on the 14/8/26 a nice piece on Sinapius wines. Including the hardships Linda Morice faced over the past 6 years, from May 2020 when her partner Vaughan Dell at the age of 39 had a massive heart attack and passed. Nick says “he left behind Linda , their 2 daughters , a winery full of tanks and barrels but the what and where of it all was never written down because it all resided in Vaughans head 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 Linda still managed to get the 2020 wines released and produced 6 vintages since!” 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 My standouts of the tasting which I purchased were as follows : Gruner Veltliner 2024 . $24 AUS Technical note Close-planted, high-density grüner veltliner, wild yeast ferment, 50% large format oak, 50% stainless steel, full malolactic ferment , unfined , unfiltered. Tasting note: 👃notes of pear, citrus , subtle florals & herbs 👅textural , medium body & acidity. Nicely balanced with pear, spices, and salinity. A long length with a spicy citrus finish. Close planted Chardonnay 2023.$68 AUS Technical notes: Nine clones utilised , high density planting and dry grown., wild yeast, malolactic ferment , 20% new french oak. Taste notes: 👃/ 👅intense lime/ lemon , subtle florals & stone fruit ,oak and doughy bready like flavour . On the palate medium body, salinity , linear length with a citrus finish. Close planted Pinot Noir 2023 $68 AUS. Technical note: 100% whole berry , wild yeast, 12mths french oak , 5mths SS. Taste note: 👃/ 👅 intensity of red berries and Rhubarb, balance of fruit forward with savoury notes . Chalky mouthfeel . Tannins and acidity in harmony Has presence !
