🏃 🏃 Volunteered at the Back Cove Ultra this year, and it was an absolute blast!
🤙 Huge shoutout to @nickthinks for crushing 42.7 miles, @milescolmon for hitting an incredible 104 miles, and everyone else who pushed through the brutal humidity and relentless sun to hit new PRs and high mileage. Completely different vibe from last year! ☀️

🤙 I had to swing back by a few days later because this race just wouldn't quit—it lasted almost three full days! I love the simplicity of the Last Man Standing format: just keep running 4.16 miles every hour until you're the only one left. 🌲🔥Yeah. Pretty simple to do. 😆

The sky was brightest blue and heat mounting in a crowded Vatican City when we found out our tour of St Peter’s basilica was cancelled. Grumpy and hungry, we sat down to a poorly served lunch and planned hopes for tomorrow. We didn’t realize that this year was a Jubilee year and that the pope was in town that morning, hence the crazy crowds and tour chaos. We decide to pivot and just walk around to see the front. We found ourselves being pulled again into the crowds and towards the awe and wonder that is this site. A smooth talking hustler caught our attention and offered a ‘skip the line’ option for a fee… all the red flags were flagging but honestly YOLO and decided to dive in. About an hour later we were passing under the Holy door (only open on Jubilee years) into the basilica. Jaw dropping art- a visual feast - sacred in all the ways. We even observed a small mass complete with organ playing and choral hymn. Of course, we love a dome and got a chance with a last minute ticket to explore. Larger than life mosaics. Sooo much taller than we thought. Everything gilded and sculpted. A not obvious staircase leads to the top of the dome…. And we climbed. Sunset and views and fear and love. 10/10

Nick and Brianna hosted a family retreat in Boston. This time last year, we were filled with hope. In retrospect, we realize Jerry was filled with acceptance. We continue to work towards that. This retreat was solace for we remaining five, and I thank Nick and Brianna for giving this to us. I think of it now, as I did then, as the Boston Embrace.
The sculpture is Louise Nevelson’s Sky Covenant - a favorite- outside Temple Israel in Boston.

For those who don’t know:

On June 12th, 2024, after a long ten month fight we lost my beloved Dad (Jerry O’Brien) to Acute Myeloid Leukemia. My beautiful parents were approaching their 51st blissful year of marriage, and his death has left a huge hole in our hearts and our lives. I thought this was a perfect time to introduce the world to Blue Glass Pottery- my Mom needs support during this time and people keep asking how they can help- this is how! Rather than put up a fundraiser or anything we have decided that now is a great time to start getting her amazing artwork out there. So.....

Welcome to Blue Glass Pottery! A one woman operation, my mother Nonnie fell in love with pottery after being gifted an intro class by her husband Jerry in our hometown of Kingston, Rhode Island. As soon as her hands hit the wheel, she knew she was in love and that shows clearly in each and every unique piece she creates. Welcome to Blue Glass, we hope you find a piece that inspires you!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all who have reached out, dropped by, sent flowers, food, texts, well wishes- we truly feel so loved and cared for. We are doing our best to put one foot in front of the other, to honor my Dad in every way and we know our friends and family will never let us stumble.

Thank you. 🙏🏼❤️🪽
