I go back to Art Cologne!
I’m glad to confirm I’ll visit the 59th edition of Art Cologne at @Koelnmesse to share my favorite art with you from 5 to 8 November.

I cannot wait to see the artworks displayed by the art galleries I like as well as encounter some new comers for the first time. I think Art Cologne is such a refreshing art fair I like to visit every time I go. I’m always more Art enthusiast after my visit.

Souvenir from Art Paris.
I attended the opening of the art fair and you can easily imagine I saw great art. Among all the artworks I saw, I was happy to visit the booth of Melanie Rio Fluency’s art gallery entirely dedicated to the work of the French artist Justin Weiler.
.
The artist paints on glass. The results is impressive and the impact of his creation on the viewer is fascinating. We can stay long in front of his artworks to appreciate the lights, shadows and reflection on the surface.
.
When I look back at this photo of my reflection into one of his artworks the impact feels surreal. At some point, without noticing it, you kind of fade and disappear into a fantastical side world. Reality seems different even if I keep composure.

Let’s eat that banane!
I’m sure you know this famous conceptual artwork ‘Comedian’ by Maurizio Cattelan, which helped the artist questions the value of art. All newspapers wrote about it years ago when it was first presented by Perrotin French art gallery during Art Basel Miami. He easily made his point to a global audience thanks to extensive international press coverage about it at that time.

I already had the opportunity the visit several exhibitions dedicated to the Italian guy’s artistic practice. Currently, French museum Centre Pompidou Metz hosts an exhibition showcasing several of his artworks that play with scale and absurdity he is well known for.
.
In addition, it’s not a solo show considering his art installations and artworks are presented in dialogue with artworks made by various artists. So, visitors can also discover artworks from the Centre Pompidou’s collection at the same time.

Color itself is subject enough.
What I like when visiting @artcolognefair is to see a lot of artworks created by many different German artists. German art lies in its originality marked by a search for its own identity and its ability to assert itself independently of foreign artistic scenes. This is what I found when looking at an artwork of Gotthard Graubner.

The artist transgresses the two-dimensional limits of pictorial conventions. Canvas or Nylon, stretched on foam or synthetic wadding in the manner of skins, constitute organic, bodily forms. Color is the central theme of artistic practice. In his canvases, the artist generally focuses on a unique shade, which he decomposes into multiple shades and applies in many superimposed and juxtaposed layers. The color infiltrates the support and soaks it to unite with it.

I’m happy to meet @matchwithart again. Having a quick glance of the ‘behind the scene’ preparation for the big reveal. However, I have to wait like all her followers to discover the final result. Anyway, I’m sure it’s going to be great!

A long awaiting art exhibition.
I had the opportunity to attend the preview. This extensive solo exhibition was traveling through the Asia-Pacific region for years and is now coming to Europe for the first time. Choosen as the first art exhibition since the reopening of the Grand Palais, it offers a fantastic opportunity to experience Chiharu Shiota’s most extensive collection of artworks to date.

Her poetic artistic universe is captivating. We can explore through her eyes the human condition via the themes of life, sickness, death and memory. Thanks to several major large-scale art installations, complemented by many intricate artworks from drawings and sculptures to photos and videos, this retrospective guide us through the evolution of her art practice since she was a student.
.
These immersive art installations alongside artworks using diverse mediums present the Japanese artist’s view on the fragility of our human existence and the tumultuous emotions that shape our lives. The visitors are invited to explore the depths of consciousness and the essence of life itself. The simplicity of the materials makes the impact of the works even stronger. A must see exhibition that I recommend.

Saint Nicholas’ Day is a good time for having a little bit of fun. So this is the perfect day to take part of a game.

@galerie_gugging is having a photo contest going on. The purpose is to post a photo in front of its iconic building by any means possible. Don’t write more to tickle my creativity. I’m in! You still have time to enter too.
.
Obviously, I cannot travel there for the moment but Gugging is clearly on my to-visit list. Consequently, I wanted to imagine how my time over there will look like ahead of my actual visit. I already imagine myself posing in front of the recognizable facade showing sun drawings by the Austrian art brut artist Heinrich Reisenbauer. I’m sure I will enjoy the visit!

Finally I meet her in person.
No need to rush in life. Just wait for the right moment and it happens. Several years that I follow her art journey full of imaginative inspirations and today is the day when I meet the person behind @matchwithart in person.

We did not plan a 1 to 1 meet & greet on purpose. Everything happens at the occasion of @artcolognefair for which we are both invited to join a guide tour with the fair Director during the build-up of the art fair; which opens its doors to tomorrow until the end of the week-end.
