PLEASE READ - PORTFOLIO CHATS NOW AVAILABLE Friday 19th January - ONE BOOKING PER PERSON (with ONLY one mentor).

These chats are for people from marginalised and oppressed communities. You can be of any ability and at any point in your career. Each FREE half-hour chat is a one-to-one conversation with somebody in the industry. Talk through your portfolio, get advice or explore your professional practice.

Please look at each mentor’s bio to understand whether they are a good fit for your needa and check the languages they speak, align with your own.

These professionals are taking time out of their day to talk to you for free, so if you book a session, PLEASE turn up. If you can’t make it for whatever reason, just contact them to cancel/reschedule. These chats are usually done using free video chat software. After you’ve booked a session, your mentor will contact you shortly before the event with details of the meeting. You can discuss any accessibility needs with them then.

The link to the sessions is in my bio (Portfolio Chats) - if you can’t see it, it means they’re all booked up - if you can’t see many mentor names, it means that some mentors have been booked up - if you click on a person and no chats are visible, it means that mentor’s sessions are all booked up too, so try checking somebody else’s availability instead. These usually book up each month, but we will be back again next month, and the month after that, and the month after that...

Dream Project : by @nicolemillo a middle grade graphic novel, “How to catch a Chickcharney”. A group of curious kids go searching for the Bahamian cryptic knows as a Chickcharney. If you treat it well, it blesses you with good luck, if you treat it badly, it curses you. (One story goes: Lord Chamberlain believed he was cursed by the chickcharney after mocking it during his stay in The Bahamas and it supposedly cursed him and then WW2 kicked off after his fumbling attempt to smooth things over with Hitler). Sonali Fry @sonali410 at Rodale Kids @rodalekids has bought world rights to The New Kid Welcome, written by Suzanne Slade (l.) @authorsslade and illustrated by Nicole Miles @nicolemillo This flip-it picture book demonstrates that there's more than one way to think about someone who might seem "different." Publication is scheduled for summer 2022; Karen Grencik @redfoxliterary at Red Fox Literary represented the author, and Chad W. Beckerman @chadwbecks at the CAT Agency @the_cat_agency represented the illustrator.

Based on a true story, “Walking for Water” is an inspiring tale of a young Malawian boy who learns about gender inequality when his twin sister must stop attending school so that she can walk to get water five times a day. 🖐🏼

Even though this is how things have always been, Victor feels sad for his sister Linesi, who has a love of learning. Victor tries to make up for her missing school by teaching her what he learns at school in the evenings. Then, Victor comes up with an even better solution, and even inspires other boys in his community to make changes so that boys and girls can be treated more equally. 🤜🏽🤛🏽

I love the respect between Victor and his sister, and the fact that Victor’s teacher talks about gender inequality in school. This is a great book to introduce children to unequal access to education, as well as lack of access to clean water in certain parts of the world. A great book for character education and global awareness! 🌎
