The Good Harbors have arrived on Cape! We had fun in P-town bringing our books to Womencrafts and getting silly in P-town last night, and we’re looking forward to reading today at 2pm at the Wellfleet Public Library. Let’s celebrate Sail Lofter @nikabilt whose look is ready for “London Calling: From Punk to Posh,” @mommaleecurtis ‘s annual fashion show fundraiser at @ptowncommons. The look is modeled here by @roxie_had - gorgeous! The four British references that inspired this creation are: Vivienne Westwood, Sex Pistols, the Pearly Kings & Queens, and black tea (used to dye the T-shirt).

Today, Nika works as a garment-centric interdisciplinary artist; however, in the early 90’s in NYC, she was a clothing designer. Her career in fashion began in the design room of Betsey Johnson @betseyjohnson This was followed by opening her own boutique in the East Village featuring her made-in-house collection. During this time, one of her biggest and longest clients was Courtney Love.

Portrait Collage Workshop at The Commons
Today I lead a mixed media collage class for 9 people.
I had all the supplies that I use in my own work set up for each person. I had asked the participants to bring in some elements to cut up for collage in their work.

First, I photographed each person and printed out a 4x6 color print and an 8x10 B&W print. I gave everyone carbon copy tracing paper if they wanted to make their photo a drawing in their work. Showed them how all of the elements are used with the paper I provided them to work on.

Watercolor Pencils, Acrylic Paint, Gel Pens, Acrylic Markets, Graphite Pencils, and Modge Podge.
Everyone had a plastic puddy knife to apply paint to spread and blend, no brushes. We used those tools and our fingers. Small water bottles to activate the paint and ink. Gravity did what gravity does with the control of the artist.

It was a 2.5 hour class and it was an absolute delight.
I played fun music in the background and interacted with everyone as they worked on their collages.
What a fantastic experience and I am so very grateful to have been invited to teach today!

I can’t believe that it’s almost been a month since The Art of ReUse exhibition ended. It was an absolute pleasure and joy to work with the artists, designers, and the amazing team at the Richard Levy Gallery. Thank you so much for trusting and believing in the vision for the exhibition. I’m so grateful that The Art of ReUse was the first exhibition for my curatorial debut. Thank you to everyone who came to the gallery and pop-up boutique, workshops, the panel discussion, and the amazing fashion show. I hope that you left feeling inspired and encouraged. I look forward to continuing the conversation on sustainability and how it can be implemented into our everyday lives, especially in the clothes we wear, the art we appreciate, and how we decorate the spaces we exist in.
