In about 9 hours I’ll step off of a plane in Barcelona. After making my way through customs, somehow getting 7 suitcases from baggage claim to a rental car, and driving a stick shift (not my forte) north for a couple of hours, I will arrive in my new home. Although I’ve been working towards this moment for a full year now, none of it feels real yet, and that’s okay.

The preparations have been a challenge, but the intentional hours I’ve spent with friends these past couple of months have been unbelievably beautiful. I don’t want to write a massively long caption here, but lord knows I could. My friends have been supporting and loving me every which way.

This flight is about to depart so I’ve just gotta post this. I wish I had photos of everyone, but this is just what’s in my camera roll right now. I love you all, whether you’re pictured here or not. Thank you for being my friends, my family. ❤️

I set out for another Timberline Trail adventure with friends, never imagining I’d finish it alone.

And it wasn’t because anyone quit, anyone got dropped, or because I wanted to. Life just got bigger than the run. 🤷‍♀️

One friend needed to head home for a family emergency, and another’s foot just wasn’t cooperating. And thankfully we had a friend willing to help them get off the trail and where they needed to really be (you’re an angel @jessicad.pdx 🙏).

But then one of us still needed to finish the loop and get the car back. Suddenly I was standing at another river crossing thinking, Well… sh*!. I guess it’s just me.

I won’t pretend I loved every minute of it. I took a pretty nasty fall and got a little too close to the edge for comfort. I borrowed a trekking pole from a stranger just to get across the next river because my confidence had taken a much bigger hit than my knees.

There were moments I felt nervous, and moments I felt lonely. And there were times when I wondered whether I really had another 3,000-foot climb left in my legs.

But there were also strangers who stopped to make sure I was okay, and friends who appeared exactly when I needed them (still crying happy tears, @nikkiweaver 😭 …and Brian!). There were wildflowers, great sandwiches, pocket Cheetos, and tears on the final climb that had very little to do with running.

Sometimes, especially when you’re alone, the trail becomes about everything else you’re carrying.

Forty-two miles around Mt. Hood + one very unexpected reminder that I can keep moving, even when the day unfolds nothing like I imagined.

I’m about to be insufferable with race content 🤷‍♀️ but whatever, I’ve got lots more random Leona Divide 100 miler moments to share (definitely scroll to the end for a good laugh).

It seems like there’s a version of racing where everything clicks (it exists, right?!?). And then there’s the version where things go wrong but you don’t.

You just keep showing up. And you stay steady, focused, and moving forward. In my 20+ years in this sport, I’ve never had a running coach. Or a nutrition coach. Or any kind of coach. I struggle to eat “running foods.” I’ve never even used a trekking pole. I regularly forget to wash my running vest (🤮). I don’t have the latest gear, the greatest training plan, or the right socks (there’s almost always at least one hole). I’m notorious for showing up with an already dead headlamp or forgetting it altogether. I have run with my hair flapping in the wind because I forgot to put it up and didn’t have a ponytail holder.

But I just keep showing up. And somehow I keep getting it done. I may not be getting any younger in this sport, but I think I’ve gotten a whole lost wiser and a whole lot tougher. I can handle a lot out there.

So I guess what I’m saying is, feel free to f* around and find out what I do next (lol). 😏
