— These pictures represent the fragmented memories from my early travels across the Balkans — and beyond, into Ukraine and Turkey — a region where history collides and phantom pains of the past remain deeply imprinted on the landscape.

Here’s a few snaps from Photo book session #16 where @helgaharenstam talked about concept and process behind a number of her books. And the importance to be open to chance and change. And that an external deadline could help once in a while. Thanks @helgaharenstam for letting us in behind the scenes of your work. Thanks to @journalistforbundetfotografer for supporting this series through the Kreativitetsfond! 🙏
And as always @kranfotozine 🫶

| CURATOR NOTES

This piece captures the moment when the rain causes the city's outlines to dissolve, transforming the familiar everyday landscape into an otherworldly realm.

Amidst the dense fog enveloping the city, buildings, streetlights, and roads fade from view as they recede into the distance; only the faint presence of cars, buses, and pedestrians conveys the steady passage of time in this space. The figure walking from the foreground into the mist is particularly striking, drawing the viewer's gaze toward the unseen world ahead.

The strength of this work lies not in depicting the rain itself, but in capturing the "city rendered invisible" by the rain and fog. It portrays the blurring of the boundary between urban reality and the unknown world that lies beyond. We selected this image for the quiet yet profound way it expresses the theme of "rain blurring boundaries."
