KRODHA

NOTES FROM THE FIELD by Bali GLO Guide

JIA CURATED 2026

A CREATIVE EVOLVING ECOSYSTEM

A designer’s dispatch from Pengembak Beach, where a little scepticism gave way to something unexpectedly magical.

There is a particular kind of hesitation that comes with returning to an event you have loved before. You arrive carrying a memory of it the atmosphere, the people, the spaces and, inevitably, you wonder whether the new edition will live up to the one you remember.

This year, arriving at Pengembak Beach for my third @jia.curated , I had that feeling.

The move from the previous venue, with its raw, industrial and distinctly Brooklyn-like character, initially felt like a significant departure. There was something wonderfully imperfect about that setting, and I found myself wondering whether the new location would have the same energy.

In daylight, I wasn’t entirely convinced.

But then the sun began to disappear.

As evening settled over the beach, the entire experience shifted. Lighting became architecture. Pools of warm light defined intimate spaces along the shoreline, drawing people from one installation to another. Music moved through the site, connecting the different environments almost like an invisible thread. What had seemed unfamiliar in the afternoon began to reveal a very deliberate sense of place.

The beach became a collection of rooms without walls.

Our mission is to bring the intelligence of plants and traditional wisdom back into the lives of women, by designing dresses that are dyed with plants 🌼🌸🌹🌻✨🍃

🪵 Secang Wood — the source of rich reds. For generations, secang has been used in Indonesian herbal drinks and wellness traditions, valued for its connection to warmth, vitality, and wellbeing.

🍃 Indigo - source of blue 💙 ,perhaps the most revered dye plant in the world. Across cultures, indigo has been associated with meditation, contemplation, and spiritual practice 🌀 👁️ . In Japan, samurai were known to wear indigo-dyed undergarments beneath their armour, believing the plant could help soothe wounds and support healing. Naturally antibacterial, indigo carries a remarkable history that extends far beyond colour alone.

🌼 Marigold - source of yellow ✨a flower long used in teas, ceremonies, and devotional offerings. In Hindu tradition, marigold is often associated with the goddess Durga, representing both creation and destruction, birth and death. 🌼🌼 Connected to joy, celebration, and the warmth of the sun, its golden hues have long been used to bring light and radiance to cloth.

🤎 Mud — source of browns - grounding and protective. Traditionally used as sacred cloth during important rites of passage and life transitions, helping one remain connected to self during periods of change.

hope you can feel the medicine of the plants within the beautiful garments we craft 🪡 🧵 .

PAPER THIN.

An evening that reminded us how creativity constantly moves between people, places, and cultures. Through close connections with artists, curators, and galleries from Bali to New York, we continue to draw inspiration not only from materials and spaces, but from the stories and creative exchanges behind them.

What is life without art.
