✊ WE REFUSE TO KEEP PAYING MORE FOR LESS. Cuts to college funding. University redundancies. Calls for higher tuition fees while staff and services are cut. Now, proposals to make public transport more expensive and less accessible. Yesterday, outside Grand Central Station, our message was clear: students and staff will stand together to demand better. Attempts to pit us against each other won’t fund our education or protect our public services. Investment will. Students’ unions and trade unions are united in demanding the investment our education and public transport desperately need. 📲 Stand with us. ✊ UNITED AGAINST THE CUTS. STRONGER TOGETHER. Today, students, trade unions and communities stood shoulder to shoulder outside Belfast Grand Central Station with one clear message: 📢 STOP THE TRANSPORT CUTS! These cuts won't just affect one group of people. They'll affect students trying to get to class, workers getting home from late shifts, families and communities who rely on public transport every single day. Public transport is a lifeline, not a luxury. 🚌🚆 Today showed what happens when we come together, organise and demand better. ❤️ A massive thank you to every union, speaker, campaigner and supporter who stood with us today. Our collective strength is our greatest power. But today wasn't the end of our campaign. It's just the beginning. We will continue to stand together, speak out and fight for affordable, accessible and safe public transport for EVERYONE across Northern Ireland. ✍️ NOW IT'S YOUR TURN TO TAKE ACTION! Add your voice to our growing movement. SIGN THE PETITION – LINK IN BIO 🔗 ✊ WHEN WE STAND TOGETHER, WE ARE STRONGER. #StopTheTransportCuts #StrongerTogether

A major new opinion poll shows continued public support for the Economy Minister’s Caoimhe Archibald’s plan to bring forward new legislation on workers’ rights and good jobs. A new LucidTalk poll reported by the Belfast Telegraph today shows that over 70% of the total sample agreed that trade union access should be part of the Good Jobs Employment Rights Bill. There are significant levels of support among unionist voters (44% versus 36% opposed) as well as overwhelming support from nationalist and Alliance voters in support of trade union access. Speaking on the finding of the poll, ICTU Assistant General Secretary Gerry Murphy said “Laws for better workers’ rights are being rolled out across England, Wales and Scotland right now, but yet again workers in Northern Ireland are being denied these same rights by parties who represent a minority of MLAs and whose public support is under pressure. “The public and most MLAs believe that this legislation is overdue and there is an appetite for it across all parties’ supporters. People understand what the legislation aims to address when questioned about it, and that taking trade union access from the Bill will make it less effective. Workers need access to unions in order to ensure their rights in the Good Jobs Bill are respected. There remains still time to pass all stages of the Good Jobs Bill - if the will is there.”

#Portrush250726 We will not be divided by hate. Thanks to everybody making a stand against racists, fascists and self-proclared Nazis yesterday in Portrush. @enddeportationsbelfast @nipsa_the_union @causewaytradesunioncouncil @causewaypride @unitedagainstracismderry We weren't many as it was @belfastpride ❤️ 🌈 - but gosh, we were diverse and each of you radiated welcoming warmth and friendlyness and the conviction that empathy & #solidarity will prevail. Sarah White (Ex Reform UK, Advance UK) obviously has no problem with criminality, violence, antifeminism, she not only literally stands next to the very people who embody all these not only on a personal level but also as enablers of racist progroms like in Belfast and rallies with them. She has whatsoever a problem with human rights: Equality & freedom for each & everyone are mutual exclusives for racists, white supremacists, fundamentalists, fascists. 7.30pm Wednesday 8th July, The Playhouse Playwright Ed Waugh: "The ‘Cramlington 8’ were arrested on June 6, and imprisoned in July 1926, exactly a century ago. Working class Irish people are so much like Geordies [Tynesiders]. They are interested in their incredible history and understand that trade union organisation and workers’ unity are the only way to stop bigots stirring up pogroms to divert attention away from an economic system that keeps people isolated and impoverished via ‘divide and rule’.” He continued: “The Cramlington Train Wreckers is about community, working class unity and solidarity.” Tickets for the performance in The Playhouse on Wednesday, July 8, can be obtained from https://www.derryplayhouse.co.uk/event/the-cramlington-train-wreckers For more information on the play and the events that inspired it visit www.cramlingtontrainwreckers.co.uk

Mid Ulster says NOT NOW, NOT EVER to racism! The downpour couldn’t deter the people of Coalisland, GAA clubs, community groups, political parties and trade unions from turning up to the United Against Racism rally to support Hamza. We rallied in solidarity with Hamza against the cowardly and appalling attack on Chaudhary Hamza Riaz’s phone shop in Coalisland, which after being open for just one single day, had its front windows smashed. The windows are now repaired, and the community unreservedly stands in support with Hamza and everyone who lives here. Far-right agitators like Tommy Robinson, Nigel Farage, and the world’s wealthiest man, Elon Musk, are actively trying to import hysteria and division in our communities for their own agendas. Last month, a horrific act in Belfast was overshadowed by cynical actors who have used the tragedy to commit racist pogroms not seen in the north since the 60’s. Dozens of families have had to flee their homes, more now under intimidation to leave. All because of the colour of their skin. There have been many violent acts of appalling cruelty that have not triggered the kind of response we have seen over the last few months. There were no riots or shutdowns over recent senseless killings of women by people they knew, such as local victims Sophie Watson, killed by her partner, Katrina Rainey killed by her husband, and Margaret Noone killed by her son. In Cookstown last month, a nursery had to cancel a scavenger hunt for kids due to threats of anti-migrant protests in town. This shows once again that the real threat to women & children are racists and far-right agitators, happy to burn out families and kids. Migrant workers and people from every ethnic minority are part and parcel of our thriving society. The far right wish to threaten this - not just our migrant neighbours that we love and care for, but communities as a whole. Every time racists and fascists attempt to organise here, they will be pushed back by the people of Mid Ulster. We need everyone to stand together and not allow their hate and poision to take hold. @fiannaoileananghuailclg @nipsa_the_union @enddeportationsbelfast

From October, workers in England, Scotland and Wales will have new rights to access a trade union at their workplace. But workers in Northern Ireland are being denied these same rights, as the Good Jobs Bill remains blocked at the NI Executive It’s time for the Good Jobs Bill to go to the MLAs we elected in the NI Assembly and become law on this side of the Irish Sea. No sea border for workers’ rights!
