When I first got my period, I remember Amma making this pathiya curry for me and I’ve been craving for that taste ever since. Managed to kind of recreate it with Niru Pathiya Thool. Served with white rice, cavolo nero and carrot varai, green beans poriyal, keerai paruppu, and a tomato onion salad. Later made some rasam bc Naveen kept asking lol.

Watalappam Ice Cream 🌴🍨

Bringing Tamil flavours to the UK heatwave and celebrating South Asian Heritage Month with a frozen twist.

Ingredients • 600ml coconut milk • 1 can condensed milk • ½ block kithul jaggery, grated or finely chopped • Handful of cashew nuts • Drizzle of kithul treacle • 2–3 cardamom pods, crushed • 2 cloves, crushed • Pinch of sea salt • Pinch of nutmeg • Coconut oil

Method
1. Whisk together the coconut milk, condensed milk, grated kithul jaggery and spices until smooth.
2. Roast the cashews in a little coconut oil, then drizzle over the kithul treacle and cook until caramelised.
3. Fold the caramelised cashews into the ice cream mixture.
4. Freeze for 24 hours… then scoop and enjoy!

Sri Lankan Halapa, wrapped in tradition 🍃
with a cup of Ceylon tea ☕🇱🇰

Made a batch of sweet, steamy Halapa today, the kind that fills the whole kitchen with the aroma of jaggery, spices, and Kanda leaves.

I mixed @nirueurope Kurakkan flour with a little plain flour and salt, then made a rich filling by melting @nirueurope Jaggery powder with water, cardamom, cloves, and @nirueurope Shredded coconut. Once it cooled, everything came together into a soft dough that I shaped into little portions. Each one was pressed onto a Kanda leaf, folded, and steamed to perfection.
The Kanda leaf adds its own beautiful aroma, making every bite taste like home.

Best enjoyed warm with a cup of Ceylon tea ☺️
