Congratulations to Merav Meshulam-Levi and Niyati Froind!
Their books, “Dad, Do You Still Love Me?” and “Alma’s Turn”, were selected for Building a World, Sasa Setton’s national literacy program. As part of the project, the books will be distributed to third-grade students in participating schools, alongside activities and meetings with authors and illustrators.

A few days in Italy filled with sketchbooks, paint-stained hands, long tables covered with paper and brushes, little walks in the woods, shared meals, lots of laughter, and ideas appearing when I least expected them.

We drew, painted, experimented, talked, wandered, and kept making.

There was something so special about being away from everyday life and having time to notice things — colors, textures, light, details, conversations — and let all of it find its way into the work.

I’m going home with a fuller sketchbook, a slightly heavier suitcase, and my head completely full of new ideas 🩷

A big thanks to @shirleywaisman and @niyati.froind for having me, @annkoffsky, and @michaelbennerwrites for our presentation “Finding the Funny.” An audience of 90+ on four continents—the wonders of Zoom! We hope our presentation helped other picture book writers and illustrators add humor to their stories.

One tarot card. Two artists.
As a little personal project, Shirley and Niyati illustrated The Fool—the one who steps into a new journey with a flower in hand, a loyal companion by their side, and an open heart.

Here's to The Fool.😊
Here's to new beginnings. ✨
