SAVE THE DATE! CONDOR HUMANO Ritual Performance Series of “SHELTER” by iSaAc iSaBeL Espinoza Hidrobo 📍 Rautenstrauch Museum @rjmkoeln 🗓 Sunday 1st November 2026 at 4pm ⏰ 16:00 (60min) “how do we learn to fly when history has fractured the air? An invocation of the Human Condor asks. A body opens itself a space for shelter: This work unfolds as a live prayer — not addressed to a God, but to a being in the making. A hybrid presence where ancestry and futurity meet, where mourning becomes power, and isolation finds its collective echo. Movement, song, and trembling wings trace a continuous dialogue between body, lineage, and eco-social justice. A real-time ritual where the personal and the political breathe as one. You are invited to witness a body that refuses to be only a body — becoming a bridge, a question, a shelter“ The performance is part of “return” Exhibition, curated by @njsnoep Nanette Snoep In collaboration: @ninari.musica @ninarichimba (Voice/Mentor) @romanjungblut (Sound) @clarice_de_los_andes (Thinker/cultural curator) @ladafnemoreno (Artwork) @c.d.herrmann (Video) Textiles: @alytextiles Otavalo) Fashion Designer: @modameee Cuenca With the support from: @stadt.koeln @rjmkoeln @escuela_yachaywasiquito

INVISIBLE LABOUR, VISIBLE COLLECTIONS Labour, Body Politics, and Memory 30 October 2026 · 17:00–21:00 Location: return exhibition Free entrance What forms of labour, knowledge, care, and memory remain invisible in museum collections? As part of the Matrimoines / ReMatriation project, this workshop explores the overlooked histories of women’s labour, embodied knowledge, and cultural heritage. Through research, performance, and artistic intervention, it examines how objects carry memories and relationships that often remain absent from museum records. The workshop foregrounds invisible forms of knowledge and labour, approaching rematriation as a process of returning, reactivating, and restoring knowledge to source communities. Together, we ask how rematriation can reconnect museum collections with the knowledge, histories, and communities from which they originate. We also explore how artistic practice can reopen historical narratives and create space for perspectives silenced in conventional archives. With: * Injonge Karangwa - a keynote about Objects, Access, Recognition & Wellbeing. * Ruth Afane Belinga - a performance exploring how memories and embodied knowledge can be awakened * Cheryl McIntosh - an artistic reinterpretation engaging with historical memory, agency, and inherited representations. @injonge_k @macartabidjan @ruth.belinga @__sonia_tes KEYNOTE BY INJONGE KARANGWA Objects, Access, Recognition & Wellbeing Whose knowledge, labour, and relationships are missing from conventional object histories, and how might museums recognize these forms of knowledge as part of an object’s living history? A reflection on museum objects as carriers of social, cultural, and historical relationships, with particular attention to continuity, transmission, recognition, access, and wellbeing. Injonge Karangwa is a PhD researcher in Cultural History at KU Leuven. Her research explores the intersections of cultural heritage, colonial legacies, and the construction of well-being, with a particular focus on access to museum collections originating from sub-Saharan Africa. Karangwa spent more than 15 years designing and managing health programmes across sub-Saharan

What a beautiful evening yesterday! ❤️✨ Yesterday, MER HAM BUT – WE ARE MANY premiered at our museum. Moving, vibrant, full of music, humour and joy! The evening opened with internationally renowned Sinti violinist Markus Reinhardt @markus.reinhardt1958 sharing a deeply personal reflection on what home means to him. The production was developed with @thebeautifulminds_theater a theatre collective from Bonn known for its participatory and biographical approach. For this production, a group of Sinti and Roma from Cologne and Budapest share intimate stories about love, relationships, family memories and belonging. Music, films and personal stories intertwine. There is eating, drinking, laughter, storytelling and, above all, lots of music! For a few days, our exhibition return is transformed too, with films and elements of the performance becoming part of the exhibition space. Even the Black Saint Sara (Sara la Kali), revered by many Sinti and Roma, has found a temporary home here. Next performance this Friday, October 23, at 7:30 pm in the exhibition Return. Don’t miss it! ❤️

Euer Afrotreff-Team

When I packed my suitcase to leave my homeland, I couldn’t take with me the streets I grew up on. I couldn’t pack the view of Mount Sabalan that I saw every day, or the smell of my father’s garden. The idea for the Open Painting Session; “Things You Could Not Carry,” grew out of my own journey. But this experience is not mine alone; it belongs to everyone who has ever had to pack a life into a suitcase and leave something behind. What are the things you could not carry? A memory, a place, a language, a person, a dream? Join our Open Painting Session Thursday 19:00-21:00 at @rjmkoeln and share your story with us through painting. Everyone is welcome, no artistic experience is needed. #migration #livingabroad #kölntag #return #thingswecannotcarry

NEWS | MBAYE DIOP | RAUTENSTRAUCH-JOEST-MUSEUM Mbaye Diop’s (@ndomboal) animated movie “Espace Trépasse” (2021) is part of the collective exhibition “r e t u r n. between past and future emerges another present’”, curated by Nanette Snoep (@njsnoep) at the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum (@rjmkoeln), in Cologne. r e t u r n explores questions of longing, belonging and fragmented memory after experiences of loss, displacement and dislocation. Bringing together international artists, the exhibition traces what violence, colonialism and war leave behind: gaps in archives, suppressed histories and memories that continue to live in bodies, landscapes and communities. But r e t u r n does not only ask what has been lost. The works imagine new connections – to people, places and histories, to the environment and to possible futures. Memory and imagination open up new possibilities. — “r e t u r n. between past and future emerges another present’” Curated by Nanette Snoepp Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum, Cologne 17.09-06.12.2026 — Mbaye Diop & Rémy Bender “Espace Trépasse”, 2021 Film Still — #SelebeYoon #MbayeDiop #rautenstrauchjoestmuseumköln
