SATURDAY, APRIL 25 – We usually miss the annual @westvlietstreet Art Walk on account of a private event, but not this year!

The Vliet-wide event features local artists up and down on our wonderful stretch, and we’ll have 11 displayed, and present, with some LIVE PAINTING(!) in back from 10am to 2pm – scroll through and get to know them!

Just enter through the store – the bar will be open with specials, so come hang out and enjoy these great artists!

There will be a couple prizes too, if that helps!✌🏻

Art Club MKE @fiddleheadscoffee in Wauwatosa was filled with creativity and connection! 🎨

A huge thank you to everyone that brought non-perishable items for our donation to the food pantry! It’s such a joy to see our community come together to create, share, and support one another 🫶

We’d love for you to join us at our next gathering at Haven Cafe on 11/17. More details coming soon!

YAY! my cards from the #abbypainterartcardswap got here today and what a fun bunch I have! My kiddo has already stolen the capybara from me 🤣. A couple of artists didn’t list an Instagram and one has nothing at all on the back but I’ve tagged the ones I can!

I love when a yoga instructor reads a chosen text at the beginning and ending of a class.

What a beautiful surprise yesterday when @shininglightyoga.mke read this page from my book, Heart Speak.

“…a season of going quiet and relinquishing things I no longer need is an act of beauty itself.”

It is a strange and amazing thing to have your own words read back to you. It brought tears and gratitude.❤️

It is a time of wintering in the Midwest and many feel the cold and darkness all around, literally and figuratively. I wrote and illustrated Heart Speak as a visual interpretation and meditation on one of my favorite Parker Palmer books, Let Your Life Speak. The two books together have companioned me through hard times.

If you’d like to gift yourself or a friend Heart Speak, there is a link in my bio. @boswellbookco is one of my favorite local bookstores. Please shop local if you can and support small businesses!

Music Monday: When I lived in San Francisco my morning radio listening routine usually consisted of The Alex Bennett Show on Live 105, then switch over to KFOG at 10am for "10 at 10" hosted by Dave Morey and MC'd by Don Pardo. "10 great songs, from 1 great year" was the slogan of the show. If you haven't gotten the gist of the show I'll explain. Dave Morey, prompted by Don Pardo, "Let's spin the wheel and see which year we land on today Dave" and the show would be off on a musical/cultural trip back in time to reminisce about that year. The great thing about the show was that Dave would not just stick to the hits, he would play deep album tracks, novelty songs, anything that captured the Zeitgeist of that era. In addition, he would sprinkle in sound bites between songs of cultural events, TV shows, political speeches, news broadcasts, commercials, etc. It was such a fun show. One of my workmates and friends at Miller Freeman, Natasha Claro, reminded me that we use to play a game as to who could guess which year we would land on that day, adding to the overall enjoyment of the show.

If you lived in the Bay Area during that time did you listen to "10 at 10" as well?

And if you didn't live around the Bay, did your area have a similar show?
