We Move Together or Not at All
❈
Durational performance in sonified greenhouse

pics from the recent Toronto premiere:
// SummerWorks Performance Festival
// Theatre Passe Muraille, August 15, 2026 · 11—18hr

A curated selection of plants is transferred into a ready-made greenhouse, where their survival depends on the heat and sweat generated by the performers’ movement. A responsive scenography transduces movement and vibration within the greenhouse into sound, light, and condensation.

We Move Together or Not at All is a durational choreographic installation: a sonified greenhouse created by media alchemist Navid Navab, choreographer Sasha Kleinplatz, plant whisperer Odessa Dobbie, and interpreter/performer Angie Cheng.

Together, the artists develop performance scores that raise the temperature and humidity while intensifying scent and bacterial activity. Within this participatory sonic ecology, relations between bodily and vegetal activity unfold as a spatialized sonification tapestry, enveloping the audience in slowly evolving vegetal temporalities quickened by the performers’ actions. Through these scores, the artists co-orchestrate states of sensory attunement to vegetal forms and scales of activity that often elude perception.

Through this practice, the dancer’s sweat sustains plant life. It is life-giving through movement.
