It’s finally done, my Prism Blanket!! Turns out weaving in the last ends worked just as well as DayQuil to make me feel better during my birthday-weekend cold 🤧 Now if you’ll excuse me, time to break this baby in with a nap!

The Void Stool
.
Made from construction grade plywood. Using this material produces unexpected but welcomed little imperfections. The variations ensure two pieces are never exactly the same. Each piece wears its own history on its sleeve.

Using charred scrap materials and wood from eucalyptus trees felled during the construction process, the assemblage serves as an ode to reused material and advocates for more sustainable building methodologies. Scrap’s not crap… 🔄

Baltic birch plywood and upcycled Douglas fir. 2019.

Finding a balance between simplicity and modular complexity. The Fir is Carbon treated through Shou Sugi Ban: the wood is weatherproofed through cycles of burning away the softer wood, raising the harder grain and sealing the exterior cells.

“The pre-existing has value if you take the time and effort to look at it carefully. In fact, it’s a question of observation, of approaching a place with fresh eyes, attention, and precision to understand the values and the lacks, and to see how we can change the situation while keeping all the values of what is already there” [Lacaton + Vassal]
