I started working on @AHomecomingIllRemember April of 2020. The first step was writing the proposal to get the green-light from @Spelman_AVC, as this was my thesis film. I remember feeling unsure about it all. The pandemic was still raging on, an in-person senior year wasn’t promising, and I knew that all of this would effect my thesis and its production. But before this film had a name, it had a prayer.

I prayed over it diligently. I submitted this thing to God and let Him take the lead. Before I put pen to paper, God reminded me that He is Adonai, Master. I leaned on Him fully to help me imagine and convey those ideas before my department and production team. Before I launched the fundraiser, which was originally planned to be set for a $1000 goal, God reminded me that He is Jehovah Jireh, the Lord who provides. So I did not settle. I heard God and I believed Him. I had that crazy faith Pastor Mike Todd talks about.

And I didn’t quite know how the “middle” would look. I couldn’t see the days ahead that were filled with long hours of strategizing, scheduling, shooting, and editing. But I believed that in the end, this would be unlike any film I’d ever done. And it is.

I’m walking into the very thing I prayed for. @IndieMemphis, thank you for selecting my film. It’s the most wonderful feeling to debut in my hometown.

AHIR is in its first competition too: Hometowner Documentary Shorts Competition. Let’s see what God does. Either way, He’s already outdone Himself.

The promises of God are real, people. The power of the Gospel is too. Believe.
