October is Depression Awareness Month.
Depression affects everyone differently, and it’s important to normalize conversations about mental health. You never truly know what someone may be going through or what they’ve experienced behind closed doors.

Be kind. Check in. Listen without judgment. You never know how much a little compassion can mean to someone.

Call or text 988 for 24/7 free and confidential support.

Super happy to share that I’ll be running the @marinecorpsmarathon with @noemptyseat

To start, I’m a huge fan of No Empty Seats / it’s co-founder @michaelouyangg … the organization’s mission to break the stigma around mental health is so important, especially to my hometown community. Through his posts over the past few years, Michael has taught me lessons about having courage on both your good and bad days, and to always continue to advocate for the people in your life.

If you could help by donating directly through this post (any amount!!! $1, $5, $100…) your support would be appreciated and will go to good use.

They’ve helped raise over $50,000 for student and suicide prevention charities, shared over 2,000+ hours of mental health discussions, spread their heartfelt message to 10,000+ individuals, and grown their nonprofit to 15+ chapters across the country.

100% of your donations will support the fully volunteer organization funding operations, educational programming, and mental health research across the national nonprofit.

Can’t wait to run.

MANLIUS, NY. You Sparked the Conversation!

Another special night on the road with the Nehoiden Black Bears Social Impact Series.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the historic Manlius Cinema for a Shattered Ice Social Impact Screening, bringing the Central New York community together for a night of film, conversation, and connection.

We’re especially proud that ticket sales from the evening raised funds for the incredible mental health organization No Empty Seats, extending the impact of the night beyond the theater.

A huge thank you to Pamela Gottheld of Team Will G, Eric Wood, Manlius Cinema, Stacy Green, No Empty Seats, and everyone who helped bring this showing to life.

And most importantly, thank you to the incredible audience who showed up, stayed for the conversation.

MODERATORS: Jake Miskin & Pam Gottheld

PANELISTS:

Pamela K. Gottheld - Adult Services Coordinator, Manlius Library | Co-Creator, Team Will G.

Stacy Green - Teacher | AFSP Board Member | Education Committee Chair | Out of the Darkness Walk Chair

Michael OuYang - Founder, No Empty Seats | Brown University Sc.B. ’26 | MPH Candidate ’27

Eric Wood - Fayetteville-Manlius High School Varsity Boys Lacrosse Head Coach | Varsity Wrestling Head Coach | Physical Education Teacher

From community to community, our goal remains the same: use storytelling to bring people together, spark meaningful conversations around storytelling, sport, and mental health, and remind each other that no one has to face life alone.

The Nehoiden Black Bears Social Impact Series continues this fall with some exlusive first look of the award winning coming-of-age sport drama across the country.

For Suicide Prevention Month, we are highlighting the little things that each of us can do to support one another.

Suicide prevention is recognizing when someone needs support, connecting them to resources, and helping keep them safe during a crisis.

But support doesn’t go away when crisis ends. Building strong community, sharing a laugh, a conversation over lunch, and giving people something to look forward to is also suicide prevention.

Be there for eachother, give a hug, say hi to a stranger, and remember: someone is doing better because of you.

A couple of months ago, No Empty Seats helped host a @thankyoupvd benefit concert for local organizations that helped us during our darkest times.

Together we raised $20,000 and shared a wholesome night of dancing, singing, and testimonials about what makes our community so great. We were especially grateful to share the stage with Trader Joe’s Employees that housed Brown students last December.

This could not have been possible without our INCREDIBLE student performers, @thestrandri , @jandrmarketing and @thestrandri for donating their 2,000 person venue ❤️
