Contrary to popular opinion…IT’S OK TO ENJOY EATING FOOD. And I did this project to reiterate that to you and myself because it seems like somewhere down the line; thanks to the rise in conservatism coupled with society’s negative obsession with people’s weight, particularly that of plus size people we were told to forget that enjoyment. We forgot the feeling we had when we finally got our favorite desert. Forgot that the way smaller-sized people enjoy food is the same way plus size people do. Take a moment to challenge your pre-conceived notion that plus sized people shouldn’t visibly enjoy eating today !!

There is an intentional silence at the center of this session that is built for the hours after a long day of talking or an isolated walk through empty city blocks, operating on the simple truth that “sometimes you just need music with no words.”

Rather than a standard sequence of individual tracks, the broadcast functions as a singular, living organism that uses tension through cross-continental tracks. The citation examines the more obscure parts of composition by testing how wildly opposite eras and locations share the exact same structural gravity. It moves as a continuous, fluid build up: starting in the fragile, felt-hammer intimacy of bedroom electronics and liquid ambient space, rising through the breath-driven, analog warmth of 80s/90s brass and live saxophone pulse, before suddenly and beautifully opening up into the ancestral earth of the Sahel. Stripping away Western studio polish entirely, the mid-section leans into the looping of traditional percussion and raw vocal call-and-response to induce a deep, hypnotic rhythmic trance honouring west African roots. The descent of the curation loops right back into modern urban infrastructure through skeletal, clean guitar jazz-chords and chopped interludes that act as literal, calculated doors closing, before sealing the broadcast in the cold, expansive ambient void like it starts with. It refuses to treat music as isolated moments, opting instead to play with the blending of various instruments where different worlds melt and collapse into one.

[ The Village We Sow | August 17, 2026 | Recap ]

Through the wisdom shared during our Elders Panel and the expression brought forward in our Art Showcase, we used poetry, music, dance, storytelling, and visual art as our weapon of creativity in the name of solidarity.

Most importantly we created a space to learn from one another, ask questions, connect, and create with intention.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing more from the village, highlighting our elders, artists, performances, and reflections so we can continue unpacking what we heard, felt, questioned, and learned together.

While we gathered in celebration and creativity, the realities that brought many of these conversations into the room continue. Congo is still fighting for freedom. Palestine is still fighting for freedom. Sudan is still fighting for freedom. Across the world, communities continue to resist genocide, displacement, exploitation, and the erasure of their people and stories.

Our responsibility is to keep paying attention.

Take what resonates. Research what you don’t know. Dig deeper. Create from what you learn. And sow into your own village with intention.

[ The Village We Sow | August 17, 2026 ] 🛖

We’re still taking in what happened in that room.

[The Village We Sow] is about what we choose to plant within one another. Through the wisdom of our elders, the expression of our artists, the curiosity of our children, and the incredible support of each village member.

Most importantly, we gathered to learn how we can better support each other across global struggles. Every story shared, lesson passed down, and act of intention is a seed. Reminding us to stay informed, create with intention, stand in solidarity, and turn awareness into action.

Let’s carry the lesson beyond that room.

Be intentional about what you sow in your own village. Sow creativity. Sow knowledge. Sow care. Sow solidarity. Sow the conversations that need to be had. Sow your elders, your children, your neighbours and one another.

What we sow together, we can one day harvest in abundance.
