Celebrating Strong, Italian American women this month. 🇮🇹❤️

My first is a special tribute to my soul sister, Taylor Taglianetti, who casually shut down Fifth Avenue to put on the largest celebration of Italian American Heritage in the world! Over 100 marching troops, 1 million spectators and the entire NYC watching. She organized this beautiful Columbus Day Parade on behalf of Columbus Citizens Foundation who use the proceeds from the parade to fund their scholarship program, donating over $45 million to Italian American youth education already.

Here’s to you my girl 🥂an Italian American toast straight from my heart. Your loyalty, kindness, intelligence, and beautiful soul are what makes You and all Italian American women truly irreplaceable. Not everyone has the wisdom to recognize something extraordinary. 🇮🇹❤️

Felicità. ❤️🇮🇹

Joy. Pure, overwhelming joy. That’s the only way I can describe what I’m feeling after yesterday.

When I began writing Under the Light of the Italian Moon 14 years ago, it came from a place of profound sadness and loss. I could never have imagined the extraordinary gifts this journey would bring into my life.

And yesterday was one of those gifts I’ll treasure forever.

To be at the New York Public Library, celebrating Italian American Heritage Month, sharing the stories of the women who came before us, was something I could never have dreamed of.

But beyond the event itself, it was all the little moments that made it so special. Laughing with the wonderful Laura Morelli, taking photos in front of that iconic library with our ridiculously enormous book signs, sharing a beautiful conversation about history, memory, and the women who shaped us. Seeing friends and family in the audience, knowing people were tuning in from around the world, and celebrating afterwards over dinner, laughter, and wine.

Just happiness. So much happiness.

What began as a way to make sense of grief has somehow become a journey filled with friendship, connection, discovery, and experiences I never could have imagined.

And perhaps the greatest gift of all is the connection I feel to my ancestors. The women whose lives I spent years researching, whose stories might otherwise have been forgotten, have somehow continued to open doors and bring extraordinary people and experiences into my life, generations later.

I wish they could see where their stories have taken me. ❤️

A heartfelt thank you to the New York Public Library, the National Organization of Italian American Women, Laura Morelli, Lisa Ackerman, and everyone who joined us in person or virtually and helped make this such an unforgettable evening.

I’ve chosen Felicità as the music for this little collection of memories because I simply can’t think of a better word for what I’m feeling.

What a gift this journey has been. And continues to be. ❤️

🇮🇹 🇺🇸 Italian American leaders and distinguished guests, including representatives from IALF, gathered at the White House to honor Christopher Columbus and celebrate the rich heritage, enduring values, and remarkable contributions of Italian Americans to our nation.

We are proud to see members of the IALF community represented at this meaningful occasion, standing together to recognize the generations of Italian Americans whose hard work, resilience, leadership, and dedication have helped shape the fabric of our country.

This celebration serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of preserving our shared heritage, honoring our history, and passing our traditions on to future generations.

As we kick off this weekend, I’m feeling especially grateful for the roots that brought us both here. ❤️🇮🇹🇺🇦

I’m a proud first-generation Italian American, and my husband is a proud first-generation Ukrainian American. One thing has always remained true how the lands that shaped our parents are forever in our hearts.

Both of our families came to America seeking the opportunities, hope, and freedom that make this country so special. And now, more than ever, our hearts are with the people of Ukraine as they courageously fight to protect the freedom, independence, and future of their homeland.

Our heritage is more than where our families came from. It’s the stories of sacrifice, the courage to start over, the traditions we carry forward, and the values we pass on to the next generation.

Слава Україні! 🇺🇦 Glory to Ukraine.

In bocca al lupo ❤️ Happy Italian American Heritage Month

Last Chance, Tomorrow 🇮🇹 ✨ | Jennifer Anton, author of Under the Light of the Italian Moon and Laura Morelli, author of The Keeper of Lost Art, join us to discuss their novels and to celebrate Italian Heritage in conversation with Lisa Ackerman.

Under the Light of the Italian Moon tells the story of Nina Argenta, the daughter of a village midwife in a small mountain town in northern Italy, whose dreams of joining the man she loves in America are shattered by family duty and the rise of Mussolini. As fascism tightens its grip and World War II brings Nazi occupation to her village, Nina must summon extraordinary courage to protect those she loves. Inspired by the true experiences of the author’s own family, the novel explores the enduring bonds of family, the resilience of ordinary women, and the choices that shape identity across generations.

The Keeper of Lost Art by Laura Morelli tells the story of twelve-year-old Stella, coming of age in Tuscany 1943, in a world at war. When her mother sends her to safety with distant relatives at a villa in Tuscany, she finds them tasked with a great responsibility: hiding over 300 priceless masterpieces from the Uffizi Galleries. Inspired by the true story of the heroic efforts to safeguard Italy’s cultural treasures during World War II, The Keeper of Lost Art is a sweeping and emotionally powerful tale of love, loss, and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.

Tomorrow night in New York. 🇮🇹📚✨

I’m so excited to join author Laura Morelli at the New York Public Library for a conversation on “Translating Memory, War, and Italian Identity.”

We’ll be talking about the stories behind our novels, the women shaped by fascism and World War II, the role of memory and heritage, and what it means to carry Italian identity across generations.

For me, this conversation is especially personal. Under the Light of the Italian Moon was inspired by my great-great-grandmother, a midwife in northern Italy, and by the women in my family whose stories might otherwise have been lost.
