Battling Ice, Snow & Mud on the Road to Band-E-Amir | Yalang Pass Attempt Fail

After a tense argument with hotel staff, I hit the road toward Band-E-Amir — one of my top bucket-list destinations in the country. To get there, I had to face one of two treacherous high mountain passes, both soaring over 3,400–3,500 meters (11,500 ft) and blanketed in snow and ice. I have also discovered an unexpected surprise on the way - an ancient castle not listed on any map.

My first attempt to cross the Yalang Pass ended in failure. The alternative route I discovered quickly turned into a mud-way from hell. Sliding, crashing, and crawling forward with every step, I eventually found shelter at a remote gas station in a small village... and crashed there for the night.

Extreme roads, breathtaking landscapes, and the relentless battle with nature in winter conditions. Don’t miss the next chapter as I push on toward Band-E-Amir.

🇮🇷 The Art of Motorcycle Droppenance & Maintenance
~
In Shiraz, our desert formed group conducted some maintenance, and split up. For Erica and Reda it was time to head for Dubai, for Zasha back to Germany, whilst me and Hannes continued onwards to Kerman and Afghanistan. Having set off, we’ve encountered some unpleasant rain and a complex ride at night in nasty terrain - where more surprises awaited

Cappadocia wasn't made unforgettable by the places but by the people we shared the time with. People we met on the road, that suddenly jumped in our lives and with which we found a genuine connection. Thanks guys for one of the most amazing and funny week of my life ❤️
What have I learn the most out of it? Never fart in front of a guide when visiting underground cities 💨🤷🏻

🇮🇷 Forbidden city of Istakhr, Sar Yazd Fortress & Persepolis. Full Episode at YouTube.com/@jb.overland
~
Having set off from Yazd, we have explored one of the first exchange mechanism fortresses of it’s kind - the Sar Yazd, which serviced the Silk Road trade and provided much needed shelter from bandits in the middle of the desert, then headed south and camped near the Tomb of Cyrus.
On day two, our main goal was the Persepolis and wishful thinking about the City of Istakhr. The Iranian historian who told me about it warned that it’s off limit to public, and that we won’t be able to gain access... But luck was on our side
