Morning Musings Visiting Switzerland. In the last few years it seems to evoke thoughts about home. What does one consider home? And why? Having lived in quite a few countries over the years I always feel like each holds a piece of my heart, but there are only two places I feel are home. One being Switzerland. I still consider Switzerland home, even though I left in my early twenty. But being born and raised there somehow will always make it home. I feel like even after all this time I know and intrinsically understand the place. The other place is Cape Town. I felt at home in the Mother City the first time I visited many many years ago. Somehow we just fit. Funny enough the two places I call home are also the two I lived the longest in, so I do wonder if I will feel like Istanbul will be home one day if given enough time? Is it about the time spent somewhere? Is home a place one is familiar with? I am not sure that this is true for me actually. Honestly I am the eternal nomad, I literally plan moving to another city or country every time I travel. I can see myself living all over the world. I still maintain ideally I would have several small places all over the world, living between them, spending 6-8weeks in each place and then going to the next. I don’t feel the urge to grow deep roots, I feel the urge to roam. I can not really define why if asked where home is I immediately think of the Switzerland and Cape Town. It is really rather that I just feel most “at home” in these two places, not that I think of them as being very similar. It’s just that when I fly over the Alps or Table Mountain my heart leaps and I feel myself relax and think home. There is a joy and contentment I feel while being there and ease, a familiarity I don’t have with any other places. Yet I don’t feel the urge to move back to either. And so I keep musing, I keep wondering what does home mean? Frankly I don’t have any answers. And I often am wondering how other feel about this: So tell me what does a place make home for you? Or what does home mean to you? _______________________________________________ #nomadsdwellings #zurich #damnearlydays #sunrise #slowtravelling
