Happy National Dance Day, y’all! 🤍🌵 At BOOT, we believe dance is about more than what happens on stage. It’s about the people we meet, the stories we share, and the community we build along the way. Looking back on Break-In Dance Fest, we’re reminded of exactly why BOOT exists: to create opportunities for Texas dance artists to grow, connect, and share their work with the world. Here’s to the artists who keep showing up, the audiences who show up for them, and the community that makes it all possible!! ✨

In her review of Liz Lerman’s Shape and Momentum: An Insomniac’s Guide for a World in Constant Motion, Jennifer Passios digs through a book that moves between memoir, creative tools, dance-making, physics, and decades of artistic experience. There’s plenty to discover—including Lerman’s “Thinking Grids,” her reflections on a 40-year pursuit of a Guggenheim, and stories from the making of Wicked Bodies. But Passios also has questions. What happens when a creative theory is built on a scientific principle that has been significantly altered in the process? And does dance need to borrow from fields like physics to make its ideas legible to the wider world? The result is a review that embraces the messy, associative nature of creative thinking while asking us to be rigorous about the ideas we build upon. Read “A witch, some kitsch, and a theory walk into a book” by Jennifer Passios at thINKingDANCE. 📊 Who leads dance? 📈 Who gets to decide? 💭 And what do the numbers reveal? Statistics can tell a story—but only if we're willing to listen. In "Dance Leadership by the Numbers," Jennifer Passios unpacks the latest report from Dance Data Project® to examine the current landscape of leadership across the dance field. The article moves beyond percentages to ask what representation really looks like, where progress is happening, and where meaningful change is still overdue. If you're invested in the future of dance—not just what's happening on stage, but who's shaping the institutions behind it—this is essential reading. Read the full article through the link in the bio. Photo Credit: Victoria Detres Image Description: A dark teal border on the left and bottom edges of a white rectangle. Six circles containing the headshots of the panelists dot the rest of the projection. Amidst the other seated speakers, Nancy Owen stands holding a microphone in her right hand. @destinationtrailraces Tahoe 200 ultra run in the books…… I experienced and gained perspective on a lot… when you have days of movement to think about and confront things in your mental space , coupled with sleep deprivation, it’s almost cleansing. I feel like a weight has been lifted off my chest……. I found what I was looking for in that trail, clarity through suffering …… To my friends gone but not forgotten, I thought of you every mile , especially Justin. I relived many times and events, and it kept me going. Thank you brothers …… I’ll never be able to repay what you’ve given me, but I will not waste the time here on this earth that I am fortunate to have ….. To my Crew - @nonjenue @jonbreck @matthew_murray_1991 @pmurray1991 , there is no way I could have done it without you keeping me moving and pacing me through the toughest lows I’ve ever experienced on trail. Thank you and love you guys!! 🤘 To my family @tacheenarubio @estisinna @aanysaar , thank you for putting up with my random long runs , driving me to training races when my feet were swollen after, and all the packing “shit everywhere” that occupied our house for days at a time….. I love you with everything that god has given me. @juanitap13 @iambrandi_nicole thank you for instilling in me a determination to seek out things that are hard and uncomfortable. Mom, you are who made me not weak… thank you. I love you both. Now rest , recovery, and training for Rim2Rim2Rim Grand Canyon Trail starts July 1st………,
