POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

We didn’t just visit Brittany & Normandy, France.

We lived it.

20 of us, all brought together by our brilliant friend Janine in honor of a milestone. We biked over 150 miles in 5 days across ground that changed the world. But the miles were never the point.

Janine’s husband Dave, a military genius, gave her the trip as a gift: a staff ride. Not a tour. A structured battlefield study where you walk the actual ground & become the person who was there.

Months ago, we were each assigned a real person connected to June 6, 1944, and the months before & after it. Some of us represented Allied leaders & soldiers. Others took on German commanders, because understanding this history means understanding both sides of it. We researched them, became them, then stood where they stood.

We started in Saint-Malo, nearly 80% destroyed in the fight to liberate it in 1944, then rebuilt stone by stone. Then Mont Saint-Michel, one of the rare places the war left untouched.

Longues-sur-Mer, German artillery still aimed at the sea. Arromanches, where the Mulberry Harbor remains, towed across the Channel because there was no port to take. Juno, Omaha, and Utah Beaches. Pointe du Hoc, where Rangers scaled sheer cliffs under fire to take out German guns.

Then Colleville-sur-Mer. Row after row after row. 9,388 white crosses & Stars of David of US soldiers facing west, toward the country that raised them.

Sainte-Mère-Église, where paratroopers dropped into a burning town.

Finally Carentan…where the Utah & Omaha beachheads were meant to link up, the objective that made the whole invasion hold together. Fitting ground to finish on.

We spoke of the 101st Airborne, Easy Company 2/506th, the Royal Air Force, & Canadian divisions. The Jedburgh teams & SOE operatives who worked in shadow, the French Resistance, Free France commandos and so many others.

Among us: 4 pilots, veterans, special ops, 4 lawyers, educators, artist, business leaders, health professionals. All of us forever impacted.

This trip was for Janine.

But it was really for them. The ones who didn’t get to grow old, so we could.

May we never, ever forget.

You don’t have to be middle aged, or white, or even a lady to reap the benefits of strength training.

But yeah, vests have become a thing.

Is it a “fad”? 🤷‍♂️

Maybe, but we couldn’t think of a much better fad than doing hard things 💪💪

What are your thoughts?

Are you pro vest? Anti-vest?

Or Frankly my dear I don’t give a damn about a vest?
