Goosebumps > Fear Street > Stephen King > True Crime millennial pipeline

We may be too old for the Scholastic Book Fair, but we’re old enough to buy ourselves bookish candles and that feels like a fair trade to me!

It’s Banned Books Week.
Sigh.

When I launched the Banned Books Collection, book banning was more like, “A school in Connecticut banned To Kill a Mockingbird because it made some lady uncomfortable! Isn’t that craaazy?”

Now it’s far more insidious and harmful, and is a direct assault on authors of color and the LGBTQ+ community.

So I get that this collection is starting to feel… different. Tacky, even.

But it’s my business and quite a large chunk of my business, at least for now. And small businesses aren’t exactly having an easy time right now.

So at the very least, maybe it’ll raise some awareness. Maybe it’ll make some money for the bookstores that sell them. We regularly donate portions of our sales to literacy organizations, mutual aid, and local libraries. Things are getting darker by the day, but I’ve always tried to be a person who adds whatever literal and figurative light I can to the world.

So let’s support our libraries and bookstores. Buy books. Support small businesses. Support each other. And hold on to whatever shred of joy and hope we can get our hands on.

So, here I am, with a heavy and conflicted heart, bringing you some sorta gross promo for candles.
I don’t know.
If the world is on fire, I guess it might as well smell good.

one little hungry guy, six layers of scent

A whole lotta thought and love and care went into bringing this one to life, and I’m mighty chuffed with the end result. Hope you love him too!

We’re ever so slowly falling into the new season; still enjoying the warm days but pausing to appreciate that hint of autumn wind in the air, watching as the trees begin to paint themselves anew. The inbetween is but a brief symphony of time, a chorus from the past to the future. Blink and you might miss it; a subtle but beautiful reminder to slow down and be in the present while you still can, to take a deep breath and remember tomorrow will come either way and there is no need to rush. 🌳🍂

I love Shirley Jackson and I have been dying to read "The Lottery" and this book has that story plus loads of her other short stories.

Paired with a chocolate hot tea and a Shirley Jackson candle from @northavecandles
