I am beyond proud to celebrate @mikabites’ book baby as she makes its way into the world today! Cuban Soul is a love letter to her family, her grandfather, her culture, and Miami. Mika’s story is one of many immigrant and refugee families: fleeing political upheaval (twice!), settling in a new community, reconnecting with their roots, and teaching new generations the food of its people.

Don’t sleep on this beauty of a book—escape to Cuba (or at least Miami) while you enjoy Mika’s Pinchos de Cerdo, Queso Frito con Salsa de Guayaba , Abuelo’s Frijoles Negros, Ceviches, Vaca Frita, and Flan de Coco. Top it off with a cold, cold beer or Cha Cha’s Rum Cocktail, and you’ll be celebrating Hispanic Heritage and Latine Month like a true baddie on the beach.

Thankful to work with a small but mighty team of mujeres that somehow made this book while @mikabites had a freshie babe, Maia! @noshwithtash food styled and became an honorary Cuban grandma (brought Izzy along!), @savannahlovespoptarts kept all us young mothers on track and sane like the production baddie she is, @lupitaestupinan showed up as super mama cooking and making sure we all had afternoon empanadas or chicharrones, Anahis cranked out ENDLESS recipes with unmatched skill, while Cha Cha and Julian brought the vibes and rum. ¡Muy orgulloso!

And a special thank you to my tía and madrina, @lauriflor2017 who let me crash at her house for 2 weeks, supplied me with endless coffees, snacks, sound baths, Florida Water after getting cursed, and lots of love and support. 💖

Mika’s book will always be special to me for two reasons: 1. I learned just as much as I taught. 2. Baby Maia joined the team halfway through the process. This greatest hits album of Cuban cooking came straight from Mika’s heart and I feel so lucky I got to help bring it into the world. Te quiero mucho, cubanita.

Snaps from brunch @theluckybeeranch for @similac_us. I loved creating this PEAK SUMMER MENU, featuring all my favorites from the @smfms market. The star was a tomato dish with a rainbow of @gomezmunak tomatoes, with garlic chips, tomato leaf oil, ranch dressing, and herbs. We also celebrated @andysorchard stonefruit, @weiserfarms melons and summer squash. Swipe for all the yum.
