I prefer upright, knees forward squatting over bent over squatting for two primary reasons. (1) Upright squatting develops knee and hip extension strength together. Bent over squatting primarily trains hip extension and low back strength. (2) Bent over squatting is tough on the low back. The bent over back squat is what people are talking about when they criticize back squats for being a low back exercise, not a leg exercise. ——— If you struggle to stay upright on squats, swipe to see some tips on fixing it. Being a naturally hip dominant athlete, I have walked this path myself. Your squat can change! ——— Shout out to @notajumper for staying that upright through the sticking point on a max squat. Anti shout out to Rippetoe for his instruction on the right. #JumpScience #squats #strength
