We have all daydreamed it.
This is the one.
This is the pitch where collaboration starts early.
This is where the idea actually gets shaped together.
 Then reality bites.
 Of course,
when the pitch window is four days, even a simple checkpoint gets labeled as luxury.
And collaboration gets pushed to the end of the line. Code 002: Collaborate, Collaborate, Collaborate is live on Stash. LINK IN BIO

The pitch is not a race to deliver a deck. It is where a proposal should be developed, questioned, guided, and sharpened before a direction is selected.
But when everything happens in four days, collaboration often gets pushed to the wrong side of the workflow.
 After the shortlist.
After the presentation.
After the award.
By then, it is too late.
The system grinds on assumptions.
 Coordination keeps the process moving.
Collaboration keeps the ideas evolving.
Time allows collaboration to thrive.

Earlier this month, I lost my closest friend. For nearly twenty years, Lou Maxon helped shape the person I became. He changed how I see design, craft and storytelling. He challenged me, trusted me, laughed with me, opened doors for me and, in many ways, helped build the foundation of Kontent Partners. His fingerprints are everywhere in my life, and because of that, they’re everywhere in this company too. People will know Lou in different ways. They’ll know the creative leader, the designer, the storyteller, the writer, the connector. I knew all of those versions too. But I knew the friend. When I met Lou in late 2008, Kontent Partners was still in its infancy. I walked into his office expecting to meet a creative director. I walked out having met someone who would fundamentally change the way I thought about creativity. Looking back, that was my design school. I’m not a designer, but Lou taught me how to think like one. He taught me that craft is care. That details matter. That curiosity is something to protect. That great work comes from people who care deeply enough to keep asking, “Can this be better?” There isn’t a corner of my life where I don’t see his influence. I see it in how I approach a story, in the work I gravitate toward and in the standards I try to uphold. Lou helped shape me. Because he helped shape me, he helped shape Kontent Partners. I still can’t quite believe he’s gone. But every day I see pieces of him in this company, in the work we do, and in the way I look at the world. I miss my friend.

Sometimes the better vision wins the pitch. Better idea - sharper treatment - stronger craft - greater chemistry - cleaner fit. Fair, it’s all part of the game. But it gets messy when creative expectations are unframed.
Safe - bold - literal - strategic stretch - surprise - production solution - creative leap. Then teams stop competing for the best idea and start fighting invisible criteria. If We Are Lucky / Part III: It’s Anyone’s Game is live on Stash.

Losing always burns. Losing to a killer idea?
It stings, but at least it’s tasteful. It’s like: I hate you, respectfully. But other times…
you leave wondering what game, league, or rulebook was being played. Safe - bold - literal - stretch - surprise. Sorry, my crystal ball stopped working years ago. If We Are Lucky / Part III: It’s Anyone’s Game is live on Stash.

Being shortlisted should come with focus.
Too often, it’s just stress.
Not for the right reasons.
No clear strategy, timing, budget, expectations, or decision criteria.
We have entered The Guessing Game!
With no clues, no audience help, no cheat codes, and no rules.
And yet somehow, teams are expected to build the best proposal. If We Are Lucky / Part II: The Shortlist is live on Stash. LINK IN BIO WE LOVE PITCHING.

Getting shortlisted is good news,
always!
We made it.
The reel worked.
The opportunity is real.
Great.
Now the fun part. No clear timing.
No clear budget.
No clear expectations.
No clear competitors.
No clear decision criteria.
Just one brief call and a few days.
Congratulations.
Now build the winning proposal.
