Three days of ideas, collaboration, real-world challenges and conversations about the future of urban mobility. 🚊🏙️

From 23–25 September at NOVA IMS in Lisbon, Mobility & Digital Twins: Enabling the Data-Driven City of Tomorrow brought together researchers, public authorities, mobility operators, technology experts and professionals to explore how data and Digital Twins can help us better understand, plan and manage our cities.

And it went far beyond the conference itself.

Over three days, the programme connected knowledge with real urban challenges through:

🔹 Hack the City: Mobility Challenge — a 48-hour hackathon where teams worked with real mobility challenges and data, supported by the organisations behind them;

🔹 Technical visits — taking participants into real mobility and urban operations to learn directly from the professionals working with these systems every day;

🔹 Working groups and knowledge exchange — bringing experts and stakeholders together to share experiences, challenges and opportunities;

🔹 Mobility & Digital Twins Conference — where these perspectives came together to discuss the future of more connected, sustainable and data-driven cities.

A huge thank you to our speakers, participants, mentors, jury members, challenge owners and teams and to @portodelisboa, @tml.mobilidade and Lisbon Municipal Civil Protection Service for welcoming our participants during the technical visits.

Co-organised by @nova_ims , @polis.network and @tml.mobilidade, with the support of @unlnovae, and together with our partners across municipalities, mobility operators and urban organisations: @camara_municipal_lisboa, @cascais_oficial, @camaradesintra,@municipiodeoeiras @carris_lisboa_oficial, @carrismetropolitana, @cp_comboiosdeportugal, @emel_mobilidade , @metropolitanodelisboa, @portodelisboa @lisboaenova, @parquestejo and @ttsltranstejosoflusa

Three days, many different perspectives, and one shared ambition: using data, collaboration and technology to build better urban mobility. 💡

Thank you to everyone who was part of it!

Three days of Hack the City in just a few minutes. 🎥⚡

Ideas, data, teamwork, endless discussions, very little sleep and a lot of determination to make something work.

During Hack the City: Mobility Challenge, our teams took on real urban mobility challenges, worked with real data and had the chance to connect directly with the organisations behind the problems.

From the first conversations with our Data Partners to the final pitches, they explored, tested, changed direction, built and improved their ideas, all within just a few intense days.

This video is a glimpse of what happened in between: the work, the people, the atmosphere and the voices of those who experienced Hack the City from the inside.

And there’s more to come. 👀 Over the next few days, we’ll take a closer look at each of our Top 3 teams and the projects they developed during Hack the City. Stay tuned!

A huge thank you to everyone who accepted the challenge, and to all the mentors, Data Partners and organisations who supported the teams along the way.

48 hours, real challenges, real data and a lot less sleep than planned. 😅
That’s a wrap on Hack the City: Mobility Challenge! 🚀

Photos from event you can find with link in bio🔗

Over the past days, our teams took on real urban mobility challenges, worked side by side with mentors and Data Partners, explored the data, tested their ideas, changed them, improved them — and kept going all the way to the final deadline.

And then came the moment we had all been waiting for. 🏆

Three teams made it to the final stage, presented what they had built, and our Hack the City winners were finally announced.

We are incredibly proud of the creativity, energy and determination we saw from every single team. What you managed to build in such a short time is exactly what made these days so special.
And we’re not finished yet. 👀

Over the next few days, we’ll take you inside the three finalist projects and show you the ideas and solutions that made it to the Hack the City final.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated, mentored, shared data, answered questions and helped make these days happen.

Day 3 of Hack the City - and what a way to finish!🚀

After days of intense work, very little sleep, countless discussions, changes, tests and last-minute improvements, our teams made it to the finish line.

On the final day, the jury evaluated the projects developed throughout the hackathon and selected three finalist teams, who then took the stage during the Mobility & Digital Twins: Enabling the Data-Driven City of Tomorrow conference to present their solutions.

And finally, the winners were announced. 🏆

But Hack the City was about much more than the final ranking.

Over just a few days, participants took real mobility challenges and real data and turned them into ideas, prototypes and solutions. They worked under pressure, learned along the way, supported each other and showed just how much can happen when talented people are given a challenge, the right data and the space to experiment.

We couldn’t be more grateful to everyone who put their energy into these days — our participants, mentors, Data Partners, jury members and all the people who helped make the experience possible.

And we’re not quite done yet. 👀

Very soon, we’ll take a closer look at each of the three finalist projects and the solutions they brought to the Hack the City final.

Organisers @novacidadelab , @nova_ims , @polis.network and @tml.mobilidade with support of @unlnovae , and partners @camara_municipal_lisboa, @cascais_oficial, @camaradesintra, @carris_lisboa_oficial, @carrismetropolitana, @cp_comboiosdeportugal, @emel_mobilidade , @metropolitanodelisboa, @portodelisboa @lisboaenova, @parquestejo and @ttsltranstejosoflusa

Three intense days. A lot of work. A lot of ideas. And hopefully, just the beginning for some of them. 💙

Day 2 of Hack the City: Mobility Challenge — done! 🚀

The second day was all about turning ideas into solutions.

Throughout the day, teams continued working intensively on their challenges, analysing data, testing ideas and developing their projects — with our partners actively involved along the way.

One of the most valuable parts of Hack the City is the opportunity for participants to work directly with the organisations behind real urban mobility challenges. Our partners were there to share their expertise, answer questions, provide feedback and help teams better understand the real-world context behind the data.

That exchange between participants and professionals from across the mobility ecosystem is exactly what this challenge is about: bringing different perspectives together to explore solutions that can make a real impact.

And now, the projects have been submitted. The jury is reviewing the teams’ work, and very soon we’ll find out the winners of Hack the City: Mobility Challenge 2026. 🏆

Here are some highlights from an intense and inspiring Day 2. 🎥
