What a weekend!

Friday, Aaron and I went to a hardcore show at The Che Cafe to watch the homies @seeitthroughcrew do their thing. They crushed it and the whole show was great.

Saturday (Edge Day), I tabled at my very first show/convention, setting up at @sdzinefest. What an awesome experience! I wish I had more pictures, but that’s a running theme for this post. After Zinefest, we linked up with a group of friends for a surprise dinner for Katie’s birthday. And I got ZERO pictures 😑

Sunday, we watched wrestling and hit Old Town with Uncle Jesse and Tia Sammie ‘cos Ronan needed a new Lucha mask for his Halloween costume.

Now it’s Monday and I have to go to work. Thanks to all our friends that helped us celebrate Katie this weekend. Thanks to all the homies that stopped by and showed love and supported during Zinefest. And thanks Tia Sammie for our new favorite picture (not seen here) of Ro Mysterio. I love and appreciate all y’all!

Huge thanks to Aaron and his amazing team @nowornevercomics in San Diego for having me this weekend to sign The Grid Wars! If you're anywhere near East Village, stop by. It's one of the best comic shops in the U.S., and you can grab a copy of The Grid Wars while you're there.

Not in San Diego? You can find both chapters at the Revenant Studios site. Link in bio.

One of my favorite @newyorkcomiccon moments. 🙌

A couple months ago I stumbled across Beast of Borikén and absolutely loved it.

@julioanta writing and @danielirizarri art really bring Puerto Rico to life in a way that feels vibrant, grounded, and full of personality. The storytelling hooked me immediately, and this book has officially become a pull for me.

So getting to meet Julio at NYCC, talk with him about the book, and tell him how much I’ve been enjoying it was really special.

He was also kind enough to sign my copy and personalize it for my mother. 🙏

Always cool when you discover a book you genuinely love and then get the chance to meet one of the people behind it.

Can’t wait to keep reading.

Shouts to @readtinyonion for curating some of my favorite talent in the comic space. And shouts to @darkhorsecomics for publishing this banger.

One of my favorite moments from @newyorkcomiccon was finally getting to meet @johnjpearson! 🎨🔥

If you’ve been following me and my podcast, The Comics & Coffee Podcast📚☕️, you know that The Department of Truth is the greatest comic book I’ve ever read. @jamesthefourth’s writing is phenomenal (shouts to the whole @readtinyonion team), but one of the things that truly made this series special to me was its incredible visual storytelling.

That striking blend of hyperrealistic, fine-art-inspired painting and abstract, surreal imagery opened my eyes to an entirely different appreciation for comic book art.

Two artists in particular helped me fall in love with that approach: Martin Simmonds and John J. Pearson.

I had the honor of meeting Simmonds at San Diego Comic-Con, and this year at NYCC, I finally got to meet Pearson!

We had a great conversation about his work, and I couldn’t leave without picking up some incredible pieces for my personal collection, including prints, his sketchbook, and a special Department of Truth hardcover featuring an original sketch and signature.

I’ve continued following Pearson’s work beyond The Department of Truth and recently started reading The Patron, which has only deepened my appreciation for his artistry.

If you’re unfamiliar with his work, I HIGHLY recommend checking out The Department of Truth and The Patron (shouts to @imagecomics and @ignitionpress). Beautiful, captivating visual storytelling that deserves your attention.

Huge shoutout to John J. Pearson! Keep doing your thing, man. Big fan! 👊🏽✨
