If I'm just one person, will my voice even stand out? Can I make a difference if I don't even know how to change?

We visited the Negro Southern League Museum and it was literally eye opening. The tributes to the players that laid the groundwork. Amazing feeling. Thank you to the staff, they were informative and very nice!!

The Negro Leagues didn’t have a Pitch Clock, but they did have incredible talent and entertainment. Don’t be fooled by Goose Tatum’s antics. He could play. He signed a contract with the Negro Leagues as a teen and became an allstar. You may know him better for his prominence with the Harlem Globetrotters.

September was basically Birthdays and Baseball (also pageants and friends, of course, but that didn’t fit in the alliteration). Wouldn’t have had it any other way 🩷

Birmingham has a rich history of baseball. The Negro Southern League Museum preserves that history.

From their iconic Rickwoods field which is the last operating Negro League stadium, to where some of the games greatest players played like Willie Mayes, Hank Aaron and many more. This museum was history frozen in time. If you love the history of baseball, this place is a definitely a place to come visit.

EPISODE 8 IS HERE! | Striving for a Healthier You

What happens when the experiences we have as children continue to affect us as adults?

In Episode 8, I sit down with Danna Perdue-Melton, M.Ed., LPC, RPT, IMH-E®, to have an important conversation about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and their impact across the lifespan.

We talk about:

✨ What ACEs are and why they matter
✨ How childhood adversity can show up in adulthood
✨ The connection between ACEs and mental, physical, and social well-being
✨ How adversity can affect relationships, emotional regulation, and self-esteem
✨ Intergenerational trauma and breaking unhealthy cycles
✨ The role of therapy in healing
✨ Resilience, healthy attachment, and creating a healthier future

Our childhood experiences can shape us, but they don’t have to define our future. Healing can begin with understanding, support, and a willingness to break the cycle.

🎧 Listen to Episode 8: Adverse Childhood Experiences with Danna Perdue-Melton

Join us on Saturday, September 19th at the @nslmbhm at 11 am for a presentation on ACE’s.
