SUPER SATURDAY - @theboxplymouth
Creatures for Change Workshop
2-4pm
24 October
Urban Room
Ground floor, Roland Levinsky Building
University of Plymouth

Workshop designed and led by @devontippingdesigns

So pleased to see the work that we (@joannedorothea and @everydayelvis) started with @theboxplymouth and @plymartscinema back in 2023 to imagine the way we live ‘now’, start to take shape publicly this autumn!

In March this year, I brought together 40 practitioner-researchers and city culture folks to shape a public programme of performance, artworks, workshops and walks to respond to The Box Plymouth’s upcoming exhibition that marks the 80th anniversary of Jill Craigie’s film The Way We Live.

Over the summer, I’ve worked with colleagues to shape these ideas and produce 8 new projects, supported by the Urban Room’s @iamhannahirwin and Katie Shorten. These sit alongside work by @katharineswillis and others to form a big, city-wide autumn festival involving @nudgecommunity and many others

First up is this workshop for The Box Plymouth’s October 24 Super Saturday. Devon Tipping will be running Creatures for Change, which connects rural and urban folklore - as happens in The Way We Live, when the Copperwheat family is moved to Horrabridge. Imagine your guardian spirit that will help you imagine Plymouth’s future!

Free, but booking is required. Follow links to the online shop in The Box’s bio

I’ll be posting more information about upcoming events in the next week. But hold 7 November as the next big day, with walks, screenings and a new performance by Crab & Bee (Phil Smith and @doctorhelenbeee)

Another jam packed month filled with creativity, community and connection.

Litterally from painting sessions in Bristol for @bristolbarbecuefamily and here in Plymouth for @azzas.gallery and @theboxplymouth and also supporting artists with various bits and pieces, I could not be any happier and proud of the journeys we have all taken.

My vision is to keep going and expanding and inspiring others to take a leap of faith any try something new and see what happens next!

May Allah continue to bless us all and keep us all safe, loved and connected in the most beautiful way! 🤲🏾✨

Something a bit different is coming to Plymouth this October. 🍄

We're hosting a free writing workshop at @city.farm.house on National Mushroom Day, Thursday 15th October, 6–8.30pm, inside the incredible Urban Mushroom Farm at C103, the former nightclub transformed by @nudgecommunity builders.

The evening kicks off with a tour of the farm with Federico Buda, followed by a talk from Dr Kirsty Matthews Nicholass, Lecturer in Biology at the University of Plymouth, on the quiet, extraordinary world of fungi. Our Co-Director and Writer Laura Horton leads a writing session using it all as creative fuel. No experience is needed to attend, just curiosity.

This is the start of something bigger too; we'll be opening a competition for people to submit short plays themed around fungi, with selected pieces professionally performed at City Farm House in Spring 2027. We're very grateful to everyone who supported the crowdfunder and donated to the fundraising campaign. Thank you. We'll be announcing more soon.

Free tickets via the link in our bio. And you may have seen recently we have started selling merch, this will be there too to browse and purchase.

Tickets are limited, only 20 spaces available. Book now to avoid disappointment. See you there! 🍄
