Prickly raspberry!

The shaggy aegires (Aegires villosus) is a tiny neon pink dorid nudibranch that only grows to about 2cm. 📏

The genus name Aegires stems from the Greek word Aegis, which refers to a protective shield. The distinct papillae clustered around its delicate gills and rhinophores act as physical armor protecting these vital organs. 🛡️

The name villosus is Latin for “shaggy” or “covered with hair-like processes”. These dense, projecting spicules give this slug a furry appearance when viewed under a microscope.

We found these two in Laha, Ambon thanks to our guide @pascalbentroq whilst diving with @lahadivepacker

This nudibranch has a brittle star hitchhiker. Often see emperor shrimps co-living but first time seeing a brittle star getting a free ride.

Dermatobranchus fortunatus-So happy to have captured the Dark-Spot Dermatobranchus in its natural habitat and behavior. If you look closely, you can see eggs underneath it. It‘s curled up there and the surrounding environment looks incredibly cozy. 🪺🐌

Those yellow spots aren’t just a pattern. 🔎

Thysanozoon nigropapillosum has numerous small, raised papillae across its body, giving this marine flatworm its distinctive appearance.

Эти жёлтые пятна — не просто рисунок. 🔎

Тело Thysanozoon nigropapillosum покрыто многочисленными маленькими выпуклыми сосочками, которые придают этому морскому плоскому червю характерный облик.
