What if your prenatal was real food? 🍓 @nunonalife hired me to create a smoothie line for their Mama Bites, so I went to their NYC HQ and we made all seven. Every recipe takes about 2 minutes, uses grocery store ingredients, and is easy to sip a little at a time on busy or queasy days.

The full guide is coming soon!

Breast milk carries the same carbs, fat, and protein whether a mom lives in a wealthy country or a low-income one. Your body handles that part on its own. Many micronutrients work differently. B vitamins, for example, only reach your milk if they’re in your diet first.

Dietitian and Nunona founder Krista Maas calls maternal nutrition infant nutrition. In episode 917, she gets into the first 1,000 days, what breast milk and formula can each provide, and why birth is the starting line for mom’s own recovery.

Krista Maas, a dietitian and founder of Nunona, remembers her professors warning that synthetic vitamins mostly turn into expensive urine. Then a 20-year study came out and backed them up. People who got their nutrients from real food saw benefits for lifespan. The same nutrients in pill form showed none of that benefit!

In episode 917, she gets into why your body absorbs food differently than a pill, how to spot clever marketing in a wellness study and what women need through pregnancy, postpartum and perimenopause.

After a career in infant nutrition, @kristamaasdevilliers became a mom and found only synthetic prenatal pills on the market.

So she founded @nunonalife, a real-food prenatal and postnatal vitamin made from fruits and vegetables.
Her advice to other founders: “The market is always changing, but you have to be able to read what’s happening in the environment, figure out how to respond to it, and figure out how to stay a step ahead.”

Happy National Women’s Small Business Month.

Moving to a new city and trying to build a community from scratch is hard, especially with a toddler in tow. Some weeks I still feel like I’m starting over. But this week reminded me it’s working. Wednesday was @bigbirdpilates , Pearl absolutely put us to work, and the moms in that class made it feel easy right away. Thursday started with a walk hosted by @nunonalife at , more new moms, plus their pre and postnatal bites, which were genuinely delicious and made with real ingredients. We ended the day at Carl Schurz Park for a read-aloud with @uesfoodsandfinds and @fitzpatrickspeech , a beautiful spot and Evie had a blast.

None of this happened overnight. It took months of showing up to things solo before it started feeling like mine. If you’re in a season where it feels lonely, it’s not forever, you just have to keep showing up.

What’s one thing that’s helped you find your people?

Part 2
I’ve stopped trying to eat what I should and eat what I can. Or drink rather. Fruits & cottage cheese have been the best thing for us. Plus it’s so much easier to throw up. 😅 I know many argue it’s not healthy to consume so much fruit without balancing it against protein & veggies. I’d argue I was starving.. I’ve lost 12lbs. Which sucks physically and mentally as I’m trying to grow a little bean to an avocado..

I have a knowing there are many elements at play here. A foreign organ made up of DNA mixing.🧬

& On a deeper level someone mentioned HG as having a spiritual root of depletion. “Our bodies rejecting the very substances it needs to thrive because it has been or is being neglected.”

This resonated deeply with the wounded child inside me. Although I am in a much better place now, there are still seeds of the old neglected version of myself. My biggest tell being my relationship to food. Some days I just wouldn’t eat. I started this pregnancy in a state of malnourishment.. hearing that from my midwife was a truth that hurt. But alas, I know where the work lies.

🚨STILL NOT TAKING THE STERIODS🚨
Still supporting others
Still full time
Still blessed

I mentioned before I do not have the capacity to cook right now. Thankfully @nunonalife is collabing with me during this vulnerable time. So far the blueberry cashew bites are sitting well. It’s giving us some balance I’m grateful for the solids I can hold down.

Still buzzing from last Wednesday

We opened our doors at Freya for the NYC @we.are.matrikas Meetup, and the room was full of the kind of energy we live for.

Doulas, midwives, pelvic floor PTs, lactation consultants, mental health providers, and so many other incredible fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum professionals came together to connect, share, and build real relationships.

If you’re not familiar with Matrikas, it’s a collaborative membership and directory built for providers like the ones who filled our space that night. Their whole philosophy: community grows businesses better than ads do. Members get a provider directory listing, access to a referral network, weekly programming like Referral Wednesdays and Thrive Thursdays, a full recording library, in-person meetups, and more, all built around the idea that referrals and relationships convert better than hustle ever will.

This is exactly the kind of community we want Freya to be part of, providers supporting providers so families get better care. Thank you to everyone who came through, and to the Matrikas team for bringing us all together. Can’t wait for the next one ✨

Thank you to our sponsors: @brodo @carenatal and @sharethedrop

POV: You finally catch your toddler being SWEET… 🥹

Me: “Awww, look at my baby being so gentle and sweet. 🥰”

My toddler 3 seconds later: ABSOLUTELY NOT. 😂😭

Motherhood is basically 10% cuddles, 10% snacks and 80% asking, “WHY ARE YOU UP THERE?!” 😂

The toddler plot twist gets me every single time.

If you’re raising a tiny human with absolutely ZERO fear… I see you. 😂🤍

Send this to the mom who is currently wondering how her child got up there. 😂👇

Real motherhood. Real life. Real chaos. And somehow… I wouldn’t trade it. 🤍

I couldn’t believe how many products there was to navigate as a first time mom. How do you know who to believe when everyone is shilling for a cut of every sale? Here’s my things I love as a first time mom with ZERO to gain for promoting these products. I spent my own money on every single one. I’ve dealt with some of their customer service. I am tired of influencers just promoting products for a check, only for real customers to be treated poorly. I run a business so I know what really happens behind the scenes with the pay for play nature of promoting products online. To each their own, I know people need a check and do it for the bag ,but at the cost of their own audience. So here’s my favorites that I’ve spent my real money on as real customer. I’ll even disclose which ones I’ve had on subscription because they are THAT good. #firsttimemom #babyproducts #whattobuy

The number one product for pregnancy and post partumn is @nunonalife . I truly believe I had a better pregnancy and zero issues with milk production because I had these in my life. Instead of taking capsules for prenatals you have real WHOLE food supplementation and they are LOADED with all the things you need. When I had experienced pregnancy loss I was astounded that I was taking a shitty pre-natal vitamin that was missing most of what I really needed. A prenatal so many influencers promote 🙃 After researching I found @nunonalife and have been on subscription for over a year 🙃 The macros are totally insane in the best way. loaded with choline, vitamins , and REAL nutrition. It’s a product I truly wish I invented it’s so brilliant and delicious. I’ve been on subscription for over a year now. Only compliant is they discontinued matcha and I miss the flavor very much 😭

Since I had a c-section I’ve been pretty concerned with baby’s microbiome. I found @persephone.bio ✨ I love that they contain vitamin d so It’s less I have to think about everyday. Ever since I integrated these I have seen a huge improvement in digestion, gas, and tummy issues. I have it on subscription and will continue to give these to him the until he’s 1. Then I will switch him to the toddler formula. Each one is individual
